looking for a team camp

Congratz to a great Shelbyville Camp. siegel's camp has 60 teams signed up at last count and will be a success. it is very obvious that the interest in High school Girls Basketball is at a very high level because of the opportunities of Title 9. What seems to be obvious to those looking is that 90% of the teams participating has a large amount of kids participating even though some are JV's. Will tht same amount be there during the school year and maintain the same interest, I think so if the school can handle them. Are a lot of these girls already playing summer, probably 55-60%. Could many of them participate if they had a place, team. It is very likely the interest is there.

Independence HS which admittedly has had a rocky 3 year start in their entrance to HS play evidently is catching a second wind and had 28 players, Varsity and JV, at the Sh. camp. This team looked very good at this time in its career.

Bucdaddio: Don't forget to mention your Daniel Boone team camp next week which will feature some of the top teams in UET in all classifications. The Cyclones will be there.

Yes indeed, I have been incommunicado and didn't get to tout our camp. Lots and lots of teams, and like you said, all classifications. I know that as the host team, our girls have had a blast so far. And yes we played your Cyclones today (good game I heard). My daughter plays post, so I'd say she probably learned the true meaning of "big girl" today.

and many more I know I left out. Haven't been yet this week, hoping to catch some action tomorrow. I heard something like 18 teams? Don't know if that's correct or not.

I was mistaken, Science Hill did not attend Daniel Boone's team camp.

Didn't get to see any play until Thursday's tournament play, but some great games Thursday. A barn-burner between Chucky-Doak and Sullivan North, a great game between Elizabethton and Tennessee High to put Elizabethton in the championship game, then an exciting championship game between Elizabethton and Daniel Boone.

Boone may be better than I gave them credit for, going all week without losing a game. Elizabethton was clearly their toughest competition. A one point game between them on Wednesday. The Lady Cyclones were without their big girl in the championship game, though, and Boone is still without their leading returning scorer from last year, but it was still a good matchup.

So there is not any misunderstanding, the somewhat 60 teams attending are counted as varsity and Jv teams being two teams at Seigels Camp.

Lenoir City camp was well-run, games on time, good, consistent officiating for the most part, just didn't like the scoreboard operators putting points on the opposing team's side and forgetting to put points on the board at other times. Just a camp and none of the results counted but score was kept so it should have been kept correctly. This happned in four of the eight games I was paying close attention to, maybe in others I was watching casually. They were told about and got it corrected most of the time, but in one it cost a team the game at least on the scoreboard.

So there is not any misunderstanding, the somewhat 60 teams attending are counted as varsity and Jv teams being two teams at Seigels Camp.

Now to refute my previous post, more than 60 teams showed up and not only is the Varsity division a good test, The JV Division is a great test with teams with many players showing up and allowing coaches to see upcoming talent and how they stack up. Teams from all over the state are participating and West Tennessee which has not ventured in to Middle Tennessee much at camps has sent numerous teams to the camp to see how they are stacking up. the mix of AAA, AA and single A has been outstanding with the surprise being many single A teams competing very strongly against some of the AAA teams. College coaches have showed up and have been seen taking notes and comparing players and backgrounds.

In the Middle of this and the organization of running a camp at multiple gyms, coordinating the Trainers, officials in probably what is said to be one of their finest productions of a camp is the Staff of Coaches at siegel High School with Head coach Bush, Asst coach Tate and Asst coach Seals along with The siegel Booster Club. The camp is a quality camp with many teams staying on premises.

The top teams seen, in no particular order, have been Riverdale, Columbia, Richmond, Lawrence, siegel, Oakland, Cookeville, and the list goes on. Good JV teams are too numerous to mention.

The mix of numerous divisions tells that teams can compete inter divisionally and do. Coaches of colleges tell you that players can be found in every division. i am sure the Staff at siegel will tell you that the camp is an enjoyable task but they will be sorry for the fine schools and players to leave and hope they have gotten something out of mingling and playing with other student/athletes.

This is a huge camp and a good way to meet other coaches and teams.
