THE HEAD COACH, THAXTON WAS TERMINATED. I HAVE WATCHED THIS PROGRAM FOR 20+ YEARS. SAME OLD THING SAME RESULTS. WE HAVE NOT HAD A WINNING SEASON IN THE TWENTY YEARS I'VE WATCH JC FOOTBALL. THERE IS TALENT IN JC BUT THE TALENT IS NOT DEVELOPED INTO FASTER STRONGER YOUNG MEN. SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE CALLED ABOUT THE POSITION SINCE IT WAS IN THE PAPER. NO TRUE LEADER IN THE SEARCH HAS LEAKED OUT JUST YET. I AM A SEASON TICKET HOLDER AND ATTEND MOST GAMES, THERE NEEDS TO BE SOME UPDATING TO THE FACILITIES AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT WOULD CERTIANLY HELP. WEIGHT EQUIPMENT VERY LIMITED, DRESSING ROOM NASTY, CONCESSIONS WHERES THE BEEF, FIELD HOUSE IS A PORTA POTTY 2 OF THEM DURING SEASON NEVER CLEANED. QUARTERBACK CLUB TWELVE MEMBERS AND COUNTING, BOARD FINAINCIAL SUPPORT UNKNOWN, QUALITY ASSISTANT COACHES CAN YOU NAME ONE, COLLEGE PROSPECTS PLAY WOMENS BASKETBALL, AND BOYS GOLF. i HOPE THE NEW COACH CAN GET THE COMMUNITY INVOLVED IN THE PROGRAM AND TURN THIS THING AROUND IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. IT WILL TAKE TIME THIS IS NOT A QUICK FIX BUT SOME NICE TALENT IS IN THE SCHOOL JUST NOT PLAYING. IF ANY COACH IS INTERESTED IN THE POSITION CONTACT JOE BARLOW DIRECTOR OF SCHOOLS JACKSON COUNTY 268-0268 :P

The word out of my hometown is that Celinas head coach may be the new head coach at Gainesboro. I don't think that is the best choice but it may happen. With the right coach, this team could win six games next season. They need someone who can come in and encourage more people to play ball. They also need someone who can get people back in the stands.

I played for Coach Thaxton while he was in Shelbyville. He was a tremendous coach. Sounds to me that he was in a horrible situation and that it will be for anyone who gets the job. I saw JC play one game last year against Woodbury and I saw NO TALENT at all. Good luck to who ever gets the job, again it sounds like Steve Spurriere couldn't turn that MESS around.

I guess we'll just have to see! :thumb:

I wonder if the people that fired Thaxton are the same folks that wouldn't hire Kevin Thomas to coach basketball, if so that is were the problem lies. It is the administration, both principal and superintendent. Obviously neither have a mind for sports. I hate it for Coach Thaxton, sounds like a horrible situation anyway.

And the people in Shelbyville love the decision not to hire Kevin Thomas. Just look at our boys basketball program now. We certainly thank you for the stupidity in not hiring Kevin.

It takes all of that for an extended amount of time to develop and maintain a successful program. You have to have the support-financial, community, coaches; you have to have the talent-facilities, weight room, interest from younger kids; you have to believe that you can accomplish good things.

Agree but who is going to be the one to take the bull by the horns and get the ball rolling ?? It's going to take everything you just mentioned and then some.

But it all depends on what kind of program you want. Do you want to be competitive with the teams in your class or do you just want to throw the ball out and let the kids play. Hopefully you all would want the best for them. However it's going to cost you some money to get a coaching staff to tackle such a challenge. And their out there if you want to put out what it takes to get them.

I don't mean to come across like I know everything about this b/c I don't. But I know that 1 man or 2 can't put the Blue Devils on the football map by themselves. It's going to take several .... and some that will volunteer as well.

It all comes back to the money issue. Is Gainesboro and Jackson Co. going to fork out the money to have a football program or are they going to be content with what they have. It's their choice and their's alone.

But here's the kicker !!

Do the athlete's at Jackson Co. even have enough interest to want to play football. I mean why would these kids want to go out for football and risk being injured for life especially when it's a losing cause. That may be sad to say but I wouldn't let my son play if those were the circumstances. Maybe that could be the consenus among the parents as well.

But I grant you the kids would want to play and the interest would spread like wild fire if things were different. Until somebody takes the bull by the horns then this will continue to be a problem.

I want to wish coach Thaxton good luck and the blame should not be on him. You have to give the man some credit for even trying to build your program. But I know several coaches and have coached some myself and they all are pretty much optimistic and will give their all until it becomes a losing cause. And I'm sure he gave his all and the problem lies elsewhere. After all a coach can only do so much the rest relies on Jackson Co.

Good luck I hope you all the best in the future. I hope Jackson Co. finds them a good fit for their needs and for the kids that play.

Coach Thaxton is a very good coach. I might not of agreed with some of the things that he did but one thing is for sure he knows what he is doing. I hate that he is getting the blame for all of the problems with the team. It's not all his fault, he can call the plays but if the players don't execute what is he supposed to do. There is some talent on the team and hopefully more boys will come out next year for the new coach. But one thing I suggest for some of the parents in the stands if your son is not playing please quit complaining about everything the coach does and support him. I wish the best of luck to the Blue Devils and their new coach next season, and to Coach Thaxton keep your head up. I appreciate everything you done for my son while he played for you.

    • It was not ACHS at all, they have zero reason to worry about Clinton.  It had to do with a kid (non football player)  that had a charge and appeared in front of the juvenile judge.  The judge saw that the kid was way behind credit wise for his grade and told him to reappear in a month with a plan to graduate.  When the kid reappeared he had more that twice the credits than one month before.  The judge called BS and contacted the school.  That is what happened.
    • I believe the Covington Chargers travel to Trenton Peabody for a scrimmage today? Anyone going to this? Curious how the Chargers will do.
    • Good ole Bradley Zulliger. He was a really good QB @ OR. Fun to watch.  Wore #15 and was like a mini Tebow, with the exception of being right handed. He could take a pounding and keep on ticking. Played with a collapsed lung against Powell that year. Tough as nails.
    • They should be pretty good in year two for Rang.  Replacing most of the offensive production losing Dozier, Hayward and Rembert , but they're are skill kids in place ready for their shot.  I know I say this every year, but the o line should show improvement after two years in Rang and Kevin Day's weight program.  I still would favor West over Plow and OR come November.  The Rebs will have to grow up a bunch between now and then, and will probably take some lumps along the way with that schedule.  But I predict come playoff time they will be ready.   One of their coaches half joked to me that they could go 5-5 regular season and win the state championship.  Ha ha.
