it has been rumored that powell offered coach hardegree the job first and he turned down for various reasons.

it has also been rumored that he pulled his name from the list before it was offered to him. either way he was a finalist for the powell job.

Hardegree took himself out of consideration when he informed administration that he needed $10-12K more than he knew the job paid when he applied for it. If he did that in the Powell situation, chances are he'd have the same demand at Bearden. It would surprise me if he ends up at Bearden.

Hardegree was a finalist for the Powell job, along with Matt Lowe and Tony Lambert.

Maybe he sees he was wrong, maybe he likes the opportunity better at Bearden, Maybe he wanted to be back in the 5A scheme. Could be a million different things, but is he under consideration since Ron Gray had a change of heart?

Knowing what I know now, I believe the sitution has something to do with his son, Bo, who of course is a backup QB at UT. From what I understand, Mom and Dad wanted to get closer to Bo for his last two years of college. I've heard a strong rumor that Bo is planning on transferring after this semester, perhaps to a D1-AA school closer to home in Jackson where he wouldn't have to sit out a transfer year since he would be going down a division.

Whatever they do, Bearden needs to do something quickly and make sure they can get whoever they offer the job to next signed on the dotted line. It's not good for the program, and especially the student/athletes at Bearden, to be kept in limbo like this.

I'm a Bearden grad, and i'm really hoping that the administration there will get a clue. They've really screwed this whole process up from day one.

how can you blame this on the administration when the man that applied and even had two threads on here campaigning for him turned the job down. if coach grey didn't want the job, then why apply? It's not the principle's fault that the man who seemed next in line to take over got cold feet at the last second.

Because they took so long to offer him the position in the first place. From what I understand he wanted the job early on, but the longer administration took to make up their minds the less likely it appeared to him that he was the choice and he, like any of us would, explored other options. Evidentially by the time administration got around to offering him the position he had found another position he felt more comfortable with.

I will say this and no more. Take what you want out of it. I'm confident Coach Gray would have taken the job in early to mid and even late March and any time before that. I think he was rubbed the wrong way.

Dang, he shouldn't be so sensitive. He applies for jobs then takes his name out. Applies for jobs, GETS offered the job then decides he wants another job. Boy, make up your mind.

Wonder what would have happened if Coach Hardegree hadn't pulled his name out of the Powell job? DO YOU THINK HE WOULD HAVE BEEN OFFERED THAT JOB, AHEAD OF MATT LOWE? Boy that would have taken some big'uns to not give Lowe the job.

Just a hunch - Hardegree looks at the Bearden job seriously!!! And I bet Bo don't transfer!!! Any takers

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
