I'm not trying to make excuses. Knox Co. schools is the 3rd largest system in the state. They've got lots of oppinions on the school board, and lots of lawyers and union reps telling people what they should and shouldn't do. All I'm saying is that they don't have the leeway(sp) to offer extra money or shift people around to "open up" positons for new hires.

I have to agree with Sneaky on this one. Trying to get the System to help a school out is like pulling the teeth of a starving Black Bear with 50 lbs of raw meat in front of him. It aint gonna happen. I have spoken with several coaches that came from various other systems (top 2) and they will tell you that Knox County is one of the worst for not helping schools get coaches for teams. It is obvious that coaches in most cases do much to help discipline, and stability in schools.

They have to be at least 4th largest if you count nashville metro as one. Memphis, Chattanoga, and Nashville are all much larger. Anyway, I guess the point is that it isn't dependeent on the size as i was trying to point out but more the lack of felxibilty and athletic support from Knox County schools.

metro and memphis city, yes. hamilton co., no. Knox Co. has 12 high schools that all have football teams. hamilton co. has no more than 10. I'm not including arts schools, and adult ed. schools, and night schools, and alternative schools, etc...

All I'm saying is that a school system with one or two high schools can offer a new coach incentives like extra mowing money, field maintenance money, summer maintenance money, off-season weightroom money, summer weightroom money, etc... If a large school system does this, then they'll have to offer it to all their coaches. It's not because they don't support atheletics, it's more that they're scared of lawyers and unions. Everything will be done to the letter of the law (so to speak) without much flexibility. Small-system school boards can often pass measures easily while large-system school boards argue and don't get anything done.

The University of Tennessee is a State college. I assume you agree. There are many more like Middle Tennessee, Chattanoga, East tennessee Sate, Memphis, Austin Peay, etc. If the University of Tennessee pays Phil Fulmer $2,000,000 a year and builds a $300,000,000 football stadium do they have to do the same for Middle Tennessee? And if they don't will they be sued? If they are sued will they lose? Many communities have multiple schools. I think they tried Socalism in the USSR..it doesn't work. There is flexibilty when you want there to be.

Even though they are all state universities, UTK is governed by the Board of Trustees of UTK, while the other state schools are governed by the Board of Regents. At least, it used to be set up that way, unless it has changed in the last few years. Please someone correct if I am wrong. Thanks.

Nope, you are pretty much on target. The UT system includes University of Tennessee campuses in Knoxville, Chattanooga, Martin, and the medical school in Memphis. The UT system has its own trustees that oversee that entire system.

 

The Board of Regents oversees the other state universities - Tennessee Tech, U of Memphis, MTSU, ETSU, Tennessee State, and Austin Peay. They also oversee the community college and technical school system.

I am no fool, but I appreciate the attention. Your obviously well educated and spoken. LOL I suggest you get some class. If you don't know how to carry on debate with a little intelligence and class then maybe you should go play with children. The anology I used was based on the fact that they all use public money and are governed by public policy. I see why Knox County can't field a perennial contender with shallow minded, short sighted fans following them. You guys are funny. I guess it's the huge school system and rigid rules you must follow is why the football over there is so bad on a continual basis.

Ole Dad...you are a fool. Knox Co can't give the Bearden more than it gives all the other schools. The comparison to UT and UTC is silly at best. Go crawl in a hole...a deep one.

      And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…

      Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.

      Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.

      After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.

      Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
