cbg
Overton will have to battle to win this season and make a return trip to the state tournament. They lost several players (11 ? and 9 of those will be playing at the next level) that had started since they were freshmen. They will have to replace the following: SS Langston (signed with Belmont) but was recruited by Georgia & Miami 2B Murihead (signed with Lipscomb or Motlow?) 3B Trey Morrison (Vol State) CF Bolden (Lipscomb) LF Tommy Moore (had offers but wanted to attend UTK) RF (name ? Dyersburg) P (name? Vol State) 1B (signed with a small school in Mississippi) P (name ? Vol State) They have 4 legitimate players returning: P/OF Richie Goodenow (Vanderbilt, Lousville Slugger High School All-American, Baseball America Top 125 players in class of 2006) P/OF/3B/1B Chris Sutherland (being recruited by several schools but has not signed) C Brandon Vernon (will sign with someone or he could be drafted in the lower rounds) Zack Hudson P/OF (signed with MTSU) Pitching will keep Overton in most games but players other than the FAB 4 will have to play well for Overton to make a serious run in the tournament. The major question is if they will be able to hit the ball and score runs for their pitchers. Edited February 8, 2006 by cbg
Red_Devils_HHS
Its going to be really hard to duplicate what they did last year. They had the most solid team we seen last year even though we choked and couldn't get a big hit when we needed it. But you all will have a good team And I hope we can cross paths again in Murfeesboro. I just wish lockwood would of been at full strength when he pitched and It would of been alot closer game I PROMISE. Best of Luck
webcoach
Overton HS will be third or forth in the district this year. They have a couple of good arms this year but their defense is suspect. It's not as hard to win games when you are relatively confident the offence is going to score 5 - 6 runs a game. That happened for them last year. Overton of 06 is not the Overton of 05. They will be lucky to get out of the district
baseballa181
Overton has a good chance to have a repeat of last year. With strong pitchers such as Richie Goodenow,Chris Sutherland, And Zach Hudson, It is not totally out of the question. As long as they can keep thier hitting up, Overton will have no problem trucking through the district and back to state this year.

Who for Oveton is going to catch the ball when the other team hits the ball or are Richie, Chris and Zack going to strike everyone out? You have alot of talent to replace and it is going to take some work for you to repeat last season performance. Having confidence is a good thing but you are talking crazy. ballplayer4327
not this year... i watched them play twice this summer and they didn't look like a state championship team... could surprise some people though You weren't watching Overton because none of the returning Starters (Goodenow, Hudson,Vernon, or Sutherland) play with Overton's summer team. Unless you are Houston you have no right to talk. Ask Franklin about there 5 games against Overton(L,L,L,L,L) It is a new year, but Overton has talent to fill their needs and they have a very solid pitching staff. Overton has unknown talent and will be strong this year.
