While we're at it.....Why don't we stop calling walking....oops, I forgot we've already done that. :)

The problem is not the teams that stall and hold onto the ball at halfcourt for the last two minutes of a half the problem is the coaches who let the other team do it. why would you sit back in a zone and just let the other team hold onto the ball. play defense.

As a team that has made it to the state tournament for the past 3 years by controlling the tempo, I'm obviously not in favor of a shot clock. We've been able to consistently beat much bigger, athletic teams. We face man to man defenses most of the time and it puts a premium on each possession and requires excellent ball handling skill from more than one player. Is it boring? Sometimes, but......the last few minutes of most of our games comes down to clutch shooting and free throws. Most of our kids play AAU so they can and do play that style of ball but their high school coach feels that with our lack of size and depth, slowing the tempo is our best bet.

As you noted, pick up the defensive intensity and pressure if you want to get these teams to quit stalling. Many of these teams have a big guy that can't guard on the perimeter or is content with just staying in the paint. We were able to play with Goodpasture that had players 6'8", 6'9" along with a 6'5" front line with Catholic having no player over 6'3". We certainly couldn't have done that without controlling the tempo.
