Can someone please tell me what happened to Rankin? I have been out of town the last few weeks and have missed out on this whole situation. Thanks.

 

Wow! You've missed out on alot! Rankin is the new head coach at Alcoa High School! We're very excited here in Alcoa! We're looking forward to a great year!

And you should be!

You guys have been successfull already with the state championships & all but I'd say you are in store for the most unbelieveable run in the history of Alcoa while Gary Rankin is there.

He took Riverdale from a decent or sometimes good team into a perennial state & sometimes national power.

I know Alcoa is already a state power.He will just guarantee you stay there.

He will help you beat Maryville too. This will happen.Maybe not this year,but it will.

You guys should be thrilled beyond belief,you've hit the jackpot!

While beating Murvul would be great, it's not the reason Rankin was hired. We're more interested in winning state championships. Not that we wouldn't take beating them, however! When I got to meet Rankin, he did say that he thought we were going to beat them last year (and a lot of us did!). I told him that the boys see that red & black and they freeze like deer in headlights. Hopefully he'll be able to do something to get in our guys' heads and take that factor out of the ballgame! Last year people said Murvul beat us because we were outcoached. That won't be the case now.

      Yeah I am on board and plan on coming down from the Ridge for some home games, great Friday night atmosphere there.  I'm really hoping SC can get them back going and have some success for those fans and community.

      Yep I was field level on the scoreboard end throwing ball with Benny when we had that brief lead. Everybody got very excited but it was short lived as Murvil regrouped and went into machine mode. But yeah,  that hit sounded like the crack of a black powder rifle being fire.  I believe Dozier took one like that as a Soph up at Greeneville after on olay block.

      Ole Benny boy lol. I forgot about Harder. He was tough as crap. He graduated in ‘09. I went to the OR/Maryville game that year (great game, btw) and he collided with Jacob West (I think was his name) and you could hear it clearly at the top of the visitor bleachers. Man, it was a stick. He could lay some wood son. All those guys were tough, Elliott included.

      They do have good community support for sure and did when I coached under Z for 4 years. (I was on that staff that turned them around a little from winning 1 game a year to actually being competitive).  Great Kids and Great Community over there.  They have done some good things with the facilities from when i coached too.

      I personally will not mind that one bit.  It seems like a really strange fit to me from the git go.
