Why are the indians not scrimmaging this spring?

They are scheduled to have a Purple & Gold scrimmage next Saturday. I would think there are several reasons why they are not scrimmageing another team this spring.

1) New Head Coach

2) Possibly new Offensive & Defensive coordinators.

3) 50+ players with a possibility of only one/two assistant coaches.

There would be no reason to scrimmage another team if you haven't hired new coordinators or have yet to fully install new offensive or defensive systems.

They willl be ready come August! :D

I understand what you are saying about possibly only having two assistants. Do you really think that BJ will completely change the offensive and defensive systems? Looks to me that he would leave some of the old system in place and just add his own wrinkles to it. I would think that a slow change would be more effective than totally changing everything.... JMO....

I don't doubt that the Indians will be ready this fall. I still think that they are in good position to have a great year.... Anyways....good luck to BJ and crew......

I don't know they changed the offensive system last fall halfway through the season to a spread offense which I really like if you have a good QB and the receivers that can catch/hold on to the ball. I also think it matches up good because not a lot of teams use it.

I haven't got to see any practice yet and really haven't heard anything about how things are going.

Has BJ found any assistant coaches yet? I hope that all is well in dunlap and hope the boys are getting after it.

My brother spoke with Coach Mullins last night and I believe he said that there was a new assistant coach and I think he also said that one of the Cates brothers was helping out with the LBs and lineman.

    • I grew up watching Greene Devil Football since I could walk and still close with a lot of the coaches so should know my history pretty well lol.  Everything worked out the way it should have but firmly believe McCurry would have won some State Title if he wouldn't been let go (Greeneville still runs the same D he brought here and he let Ballard run the O and stayed out of it when it came to calling plays.  Greeneville was put out in the Semi's McCurry's last year against Maryville and the next year Greeneville stayed in 4a and was State Runner up playing were they were placed for the first time by the TSSAA.). It was definitely a McCurry and Ballard show that turned everything around along with the Community buying in and revamping the weight room and field house. Since Ballard got promoted to HC every Coach after him has been within the Greeneville Coaching staff because your right, they know what it takes to win a state championship.  Ballard was a master mine on O and what i think Greeneville has lacked since he left and let some Championships or making it to the Championship slip away over the last few years
    • Sounds like you know your area history well. Going back and looking the records were better than I thought but mostly still beating Upper East TN schools. Ballard sounds like he came/was promoted at the right time.    I do think it’s no coincidence that them keeping the HCs as guys who were former guys on the staff. Too many times schools want a “state championship” leveled coach from the outside but they don’t know the landscape. Promoting from within will help with less turnover and keep the program consistent.
    • You’re a fool if you think I have more than one account
    • Looking back they had better records than I recalled against upper East TN.  But they still took off once ballard got there. And beating other good programs
