Seq and East Ridge is called off. Seq had two non district games next week called because those teams have to play district games in rain make ups. A tournament Friday and Saturday will have to be played around storms, more than likely. Coaches-please ask your administrators to push for a move to fall. Volleyball can play in the gym in spring rain unless there's a leaky ceiling.

How many states play softball in the fall besides Georgia?

Soccer can play on the grass and the mud wouldn't be as much as a problem. The infield, pitchers gripping a wet ball, sliding into the mud are problems with softball when it's raining or raining hard. Compare that to running around and then kicking the ball. Georgia does it, and their summer softball leads right into the fall.

So a standing fild of water is not as dangerous/detrimental for soccer players? Playing soccer in a 40 degree drizzle is not bad? Lightening doesn't strike soccer players? Also, what about the girls that play both soccer and softball? I know that Sequatchie doesn't have soccer so it's not a concern there, but there are a lot of places where soccer is growing in popularity and participation. That's a consideration that must be addressed. Another issue is that the season for volleyball or basketball would have to be shortened. For the 2006 - 2007 school year, from the first day of volleyball practice till the championship is 13 weeks. Add those 13 weeks to the end of basketball season and the volleyball season runs into June. Most schools are out in mid to late May. So now the decision has to be made if we are going to cut short volleyball or basketball. The bottom line is that Spring is a crappy time of year for any outdoor sport. But, I can't see any logic to switching seasons when other sports will be adversely affected. Yes Georgia does it....but does that make it better? They also have interscholastic SLOW pitch... do we want that next, since GA does it?

I say if it ain't broke...don't fix it...... At this point in the softball season, Marion County had to reschedule/cancel more basketball games because of snow than we have softball games because of rain.

We had several games rained out last year, but we've not had any problems with weather this year. :thumb:

It didn't rain in Jasper yesterday until 30 to 45 minutes before game time and that was just a little shower. It started sprinkling about the 6th inning but never caused a problem.

    • Never said I thought it was a smart decision. I'm scratching my head at it too.
    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
