Congrats to Covington on win. Both teams battled with errors costing USJ. Both of Covington's runs were unearned.

This was Clayton Gant's first high school loss. Prior to tonight he was 25-0 and within 2 games of tying the State Record. Hate to see him get his first loss because of errors. It would be easier to swollow if the runs had been earned but that's baseball.

Bruins and Ripley are both in a must win situation tomorrow. I look for both teams to show a lot of heart.

May the best team win!

It was a great game tonight both teams pitchers Gant and Burdette pitched very well covington capitalized on usj's mistakes to jump out early and thats all we needed but I thought we did play smart and pitch around Liles good job for both teams tonight one of the best ball games ive seen all year

Great point, you guys executed all the plays. I agree that it was one of the best games all year. I would have liked to have seen USJ play a little better in the field. In the end, they did not get key hits when they needed to. That kept them from overcoming the big errors. Great job by Burdette, he showed good poise. I'd have to say Delashmit is the best shortstop I've seen all year. No contest!! If he doesn't take that DP himself, USJ rolls their line up over for the seventh. Great job by Gant, he pitched well enough to get a win on most nights. Hope to see you guys again. Gotta beat Ripley first though.

Great game to CHS and USJ last night! I thought Burdette pitched a whale of a game against a very good team. Delashmit had a very solid game, as did Mathis. As for Gant, you couldn't have asked for him to do anymore. At one point, in the middle of the game, he looked like a college pitcher pitching to a high school team. There is no disrespect whatsoever directed at Covington in that statement. I think he struck out something like 6 men in a row in the 5th and 6th innings. Pitched out of trouble in the 1st. Gave his team a chance to get out of trouble again in the 2nd. He got stronger as the game went on. Had USJ tied it, it would have been very tough for Covington to get any more runs. Sorry to see him get his first loss like that. Good luck vs. Ripley tonight! Until the Delashmit double play in the 6th, the momentum was on USJ's side even while they were trailing. You can credit that to the starting pitcher in my opinion. What's a shame is that only one of the teams will advance out of the region!!

Who pitched for Ripley when USJ beat them 1-0, I know Gant pitched for USJ and then Nelson the next night in a 10-0 win for USJ?

    • I have no issues with the Karns Middle School program.   Good coaches and he's with the kids he goes to school with.  He's a rising 6th grader who had to play with 6th grade kids last year because Karns didn't have enough kids for a 5th grade age team.  He's in a good place at this point.   My daughter is a single mom with 4 kids under 11 years old.  We help her out with logistics, so staying in our own area right now is important.  Once he gets to high school age, who knows what happens?  That bridge will be crossed when we get there.
    • I know he was a backup but I thought he filled in well when the starter went down. Never a bad thing to have a change of pace back
    • That would be a good get for them. Lowe always finds a way. Pretty sure they have their Rb from last year returning but not that line of beef
    • One school has said it, it was York…who Oneida and many school that played them before we did claimed that they were the dirtiest bunch they’ve played. Riverside didn’t call us dirty nor did smith after they beat us. Ur only dirty if your the one giving out the whoopins.
    • If it was anyone but #8 I would agree with you. Theirs a couple people on that team that probably would. Not him. And I who was standing on the 1st base line fence saw clearly that the boys foot was covering more than half the bag.
