Cancelling Practices due to heat

Haven't thought of the $$$ point of the situation. I just wish one system didn't have a ruling like this haanded down to them that puts them at a disadvantage from the other programs in the state. I realize that the heat is a problem, I have one that plays and I want him safe. But I also know that learning to deal with the heat during practice now is what gets him ready to deal with him on Friday nights.

If they really cared about the players, they would back up the season start dates for three weeks, shorten the playoffs to only #1 and #2 in region advance, and make less playoff money, oops, there lies the true dilemma ... money or safety!

thats an awful idea...and no i dont have to worry about just 2 teams gettin in, i support riverdale so we will get in anyways. but i love the playoffs being 5 weeks long, if we take away money from the TSSAA, it also takes entertainment away from us

and on top of all that, many try and down on TN football compared to other states, how could TN truley compete with other states if our playoff system was way shorter? yes, alot of teams would have to step their game up to get into the playoffs every year making it more competitive, but TN to my knowledge would be the only state without a 5 weeks+ playoff system

Massachusetts has 2 weeks, one semi-final round and a "Super Bowl" in each of about 7 conferences.

Missouri has four rounds played over 2 1/2 weeks (last year, Round 1 was on a Wednesday; Round 2 was the following Monday; Semi-finals were the following Saturday, and championships were the Friday after Thanksgiving.)

Those are just two off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more.

I saw a teammate die of heat stroke in the neanderthal period when coaches were still making you take salt tablets (dumb dumb dumb). One of the coaches who tried to save his life still has the scar on his finger from where he tried to keep our friend from swallowing his tongue and he seizured. No one on the team or school for that matter will ever forget. Much better safe than sorry. Today there would have been lawsuits. Then, there were apologies. I'd rather see an overprotective administrator than a coach deal with a death on his watch.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
