There are some teams who are good, but the West is usually the weakest of all the three divisions in football. As for Maryville, I know they're really good but could someone who really keeps up with them tell me are they really challenged? I know you can't change the teams in your region, but they could schedule some tougher non-region opponents. It seems to me like Class 4A in East TN is pretty weak. Well to me, 4A is kinda weak statewide. Don't you see the same teams make it to the championship game almost every year? Maryville, Hillsboro, and Melrose?

You've obviously not had to deal with the region Maryville is in. I think if you say region 3-4A just about anywhere in the state the person you're talking to will know what that is if they pay attention to high school football in the state of Tennessee at all. Now, I don't know about this year. Central, Powell and Halls all graduated a lot of players. All I do know is that if you had any of those 3 in any other region in the state, chances are they'd win that region. There are a few exceptions of course, but the region Maryville is in is pretty tough. And you can't forget Knox West either who most likely will be in the playoffs this year one way or another as they're loaded with athletes. As for non-region, Maryville has the blount county deal which works for their administration so so beit. I do know that you ask just about any team in the state, they'll probably not want to play Alcoa for a non-region game. You can just about write that down as a loss. Unless, you're Maryville (and Fulton this year).

    • Honestly the A.D. may be powerless at Maryville to some degree versus other schools. I know he has his hands full with GoFan and all the stupid surprises just from the emails he sends out during the season.
    • Harriman was better than what I anticipated. They had good skill guys and a QB that’s gonna make a lot of teams look silly. They had some silly pre snap penalties but it’s just spring and I guess that’s expected.    Oneida looks the part. They are big upfront and got a stable of backs that’s gonna carry them this year. They have a few playmakers at receiver also. They have a new receiver that has only played basketball till this year and he is very athletic. The question is can we find a QB to consistently get them the ball. They played 2-3 kids there and none looked great but they didn’t look awful either. The  defense is gonna be tough again but it’s very early and a lot can change between now and the fall.     It was good just to get out and watch some ball. I don’t know if Oneida has the team to win the region this year but just what I saw tonight I think they may be in the conversation come November.
