JCM-Haywood County

JCM came out flat in the first half. Haywood`s defense simply took it to JCM. Nothing JCM did on offense seemed to work. But I`ll give the JCM coaches credit for the second half turnaround. Coach Hampton and Coach Hookfin made the necessary adjustments at halftime. The JCM defense played good in the first half, but played even better the second half. It was the defense that won this game by quickly getting the ball back in the second half and giving the offense plenty of opportunities. With about 5 minutes left Haywood got the ball back with a 20-12 lead. All they needed was a first down or two to seal this win but the Cougar defense once again rose to the occasion and held them on 3 and out.

Wayne Boykin has become a weapon at wr for JCM. On one of his TD`s he simply beat the DB and on the other made a remarkable run while breaking several tackles.

This has to be a tough one to swallow for Coach Stowe and the Tomcats. That`s at least two blown 4th quarter leads that result in a loss. I was impressed with Haywood. They have some really good size and speed. No way they are as bad as their record may indicate. If they can keep their focus, they`ll put a surprise on someone this year.
