REGION 7-3A PREVIEW

Recommended Posts

Region 7-3A went 4-2 on 9-22-06 upping their record to 19-4 on the year against outside competition....Dyer Co became the first team other than Haywood Co to lose a game outside of region play....Haywood Co lost for the third time outside region play......This week we head back into tough regional play with some key contests......

(1-5 0-2)HAYWOOD COUNTY TOMCATS.......

The Tomcats get a much needed week off after their tough, hard fought game with Fayette-Ware..Their next game will be on 10-6-06 at Obion Co. Central..The Tomcats lost to Fayette-Ware 18-16 on Friday night

#3 CROCKETT COUNTY CAVALIERS(5-0 2-0) @ RIPLEY TIGERS(4-1 0-1)....

Big showdown at Tiny Knee Stadium in Ripley...The Cavs come into the contest riding high with a 5-0 record and big aspirations to go deep into the playoffs...The Ripley Tigers, already with a loss in region play face a must-win situation early in regional play....Ripley was one of the few teams in Tennessee to have a winning record(6-4)and not make the playoffs last year...The Tiger faithful are excited about this years team....Crockett Co is loaded. They come at you from every direction and are playing with alot of confidence...They have alot of momentum and have already won once on the road in region play...Make that twice...Crockett County wins

(3-2 0-1)DYER COUNTY CHOCTAWS @ (1-1 4-1)DYERSBURG TROJANS.......

What a difference a couple of weeks makes.....Dyer County was riding high and state ranked for the first time in years heading into Troy to face the OCCHS Rebels..They lost a shoot-out to OC(44-36) then followed that with a bad home loss to Trenton Peabody and lost Andre Flowers to an injury late in the game(Down 27-0 that late in the game, why was your playmaker in the game anyway?)Dyersburg on the other hand had the week off after their loss in Alamo to Crockett Co 28-14.During the week an even bigger loss..Coach James Counce suffered a heart attack and had surgery to correct some blockages....This sort of thing makes football seem so unimportant..How will the kids from Dyersburg respond??..I say they rally around each other and play the game of their lives...Wouldn't want to be the Choctaws this week...Dyersburg will win....Get well soon coach!!!!

(1-1 4-1)OBION CO. CENTRAL REBELS @ (1-0 5-0)COVINGTON CHARGERS....

This game to the casual observer will be thought of as an easy win for the Chargers...What the casual observers may not know is the Rebels have been a thorn in the sides if the Chargers for the last four years....OC owns a 2-2 record in that time span with wins over Covington twice in Troy when the Chargers were #1 in the state..The last time the Rebs traveled south to face Covington, the Rebels lost a classic 33-27 with the difference in the game being a kickoff return..The Rebels had the ball at midfield as time ran out on them....The time before that the Rebs had Covington beat, leading the Chargers in the fourth quarter before a late rally by Covington and lost 20-13...Covington is a team loaded with athletes as always and will have the advantage in that area, but they have had that advantage every year these two teams have ever played.....This a big opportunity for OC.With a win they could plant themselves firmly in the thick of this race...The Rebels are better than they were last year when they defeated the Chargers 17-7..The Chargers from what everyone says has a very good defense...The Rebel offense has been a roll the last three weeks and is averaging 43 points a game during that span....The Rebels passed a grand total of ZERO times against Union City Friday night and had rolled up around 330 yards on the ground by halftime...Covington has not fared all that well against this offense since Darren Bowling took over the Rebel helm four years ago...It's time for the Rebels to make that move where people give them some respect and not consider them a second tier team in this region....The Rebs win a close one in Covington

AGAIN COME OUT AND SUPPORT THESE KIDS...WE ARE BLESSED TO HAVE SOME OF THE BEST 3A FOOTBALL IN THE ENTIRE STATE BEING PLAYED IN OUR BACKYARDS.......

backintha.....Yes Crockett will win, rather easily, Dyersburg too will get the W. As for OC at Covington, the Rebs do indeed need to make a statement, and while this will be a tough one, and most will right off any chance of OC getting a win at Covington. OC must "fill the lanes" on "D", and contain the talented Covington backs, but as we have said before, Covington has had problems with the Rebel offensive set. I'm with you, I say the Rebs win a close one vs the Chargers, and gain some respect in the Region.

GO REBELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
