Mt. Juliet @ Hillsboro

MJ AND BEYOND

As seen last night with 5 number one seeds being dropped in 5AAAAA, any thing can happen. Would love to see perry pull this one out, but hillsboro is a team on a mission to get back to the championship. Believe me, I know how good mt juliet is, and if they fumble 4 times against hillsboro like they did us, it will be a long night. #21 from mt. juliet is a great LB, and #5 and #2 and #7 will play well in the secondary. I like the upset this week. Got to support Region 6-4AAAA.

yeah darryl johnson is # 21 he's holding up fine after the shake up against NW and Hill # 7 is playing good football but the yellow flags saved his butt on friday

A. Majors # 5 i saw limp off the field i believe during the 3rd quarter but his ankles have been a factor all year i always see his ankles with braces well see how that goes i like the junior talent too dont count out the sophmores danny valencic with 2 ints along with #22 linch i think hes got himself to pics as well

another thing i forgot to mention earlier is SPECIAL TEAMS

the bears are far superior to hillsboro on special teams infact i saw a litle trickery with taylor to majors last night it almost workd to but someone came off of a block and stopped a huge play from happening if mj performs special teams like they have all year thats just an added advantage oh and valencic needs to make better decisions on his punt returns he almost set tullahoma up with great field position last night

Lets see Clarksville beat Maplewood= mt. juliet beat Clarksville

Lets see Springfield beat Stratford = mt. juliet lost to springfield week 2 by 7 pts

however, Hillsboro spanked Rossview= Rossview payed the gods that night to beat mt. juliet.

I will go ahead and say UPSET!!!!!!!!

mj and beyond did you go to the game vs. northwest.

Thanks, I actually got to the game a little after it started, but was that you or a compatriot?

Rossview may have been the wake up call (especially at homecoming) for the Bears. Except for WCHS (game 1) the Bears have been in every game (and could just as well defeated Springfield and Lebanon). So I think that the record for MJ is somewhat deceptive - although I am not touting them as an effective 9-1.

I think this shakes up as a GREAT midstate game (best in the state maybe) and I do hope the Bears stay hungry and not satisfied. I think Hillsboro may still be looking down the road at the Region champs (and this is okay by me!)

The Bears have a little more size & depth than folks realize and as noted before a good amount of team speed as well (which is another great attribute of Hillsboro)

Bear fans that have Comcast - the CSS game of the week between Maplewood and Hillsboro (I believe this was week 8 or 9 both teams were 7-0) is still on the system (Sports - Local Sports -Football - High School) Go ahead and scout the Burros...spread offense, single back - he also is dang effective on swing passes and screens!

Go Bears! :thumb:

that will definetly be a factor perry can rotate his db's running backs and receivers and allways have a fresh set where as hillsboro better hope their conditioned well

Kicking Game - any 5 4A's have any comments on the Burros kicking game? Best I can figure Hillsboro had just a couple of FG's, and not a long average for Punts. Of course you can argue that they didn't need them with their O, BUT this is the second season. How do the special teams stack up?

i did see them see in week 7 their punter has an average leg but is scared to death bring pressure and watch him tremble. so basicly u bring pressure either he will fumble the snap or will shank it they can make extra points but dont have the range of the mj kicker #4

I'm not sure at this point that stats mean a whole lot, ie, the 506 yards that Hillsboro had against Rossview, (the weak sister in 6-4A even though they beat MJ). Mt. Juliet had 416 yards against Tullahoma, 327 on the ground. The Mt. Juliet defense has 16 interceptions on the year and a little bit unusual in high school football, the three linebackers lead the team in tackles with 70, 90 and 105 heading into last night, just like they're supposed to. It should be a great game and atmosphere with survive and advance the mantra for all of the teams still playing. Throw out the stats and get into a dog fight. :thumb:

Yes they had 16 INT's on the year; but against the Tullahoma offence; they created not one single turnover. Hillsboro will roll.

Maybe Rossview did "pay the Gods" but what did MJ have to pay the refs Friday against Tullahoma. The two touchdowns they lost to poor calls made the difference. The TD pass called back for lineman down field was boogus as proved if you look at the tape of the game. As was the untouched punt in the second half. Replay on tape shows two things clearly ...MJ touched the ball, ball trajectory changed when it was touched. Tullahoma recovered this in the endzone and had it removed due to ref saying "not touched". These doesn't even cover the unnessary roughness no call on Cass Barnes. Tape shows MJ player cleary twisting Barnes' foot/angle after the tackle right in front of the ref. A good called game and MJ loses.

I will say that MJ is a good team and believe they were underated but without the bad calls and no calls; they would be sitting home this week.

Sorry, but with all due respect MJ wins and won...you cannot say this or that and the game is decided...circumstances would then require a change of game plan and quite frankly Tullahoma didn't look like they were going to stop the Bears even spotting two touches as you require.. How did that 327 yards on the ground for MJ look on the tape? How did the three touches over 40 yards for MJ look on tape? Did you catch the Tullahoma players twisting Bear ankles on the tape?

But, welcome to the party!

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
