Tops In 1A

1. Summertown (2-0) – The Lady Eagles showed why they are to be feared in Class A as they took down two very strong teams this week when they defeated AAA Lincoln County by 6 and AA powerhouse David Lipscomb by a surprising 17 points. Up next for these girls is a Region 6A match-up against Columbia Academy on the 21st, in a game that the Lady Eagles probably will have put away by the end of the 1st quarter.

2. Red Boiling Springs (2-0) – The Lady Bulldogs had no problems with their two Hall of Fame opponents as they downed Clarksville Academy by 61 and defeated Sale Creek by 48. RBS will be extremely busy, though not really challenged, this week as they travel to Region 4A opponent Watertown on Monday, host another region opponent in Trousdale County on Tuesday, and then host a Thanksgiving Classic in which they will play Hampshire on Friday and Sale Creek again on Saturday.

3. Clarkrange (2-0) – The Lady Buffaloes used the outstanding play of freshman Kelly Reed and the tough inside play of 6’0” towers Phillips and Snow to take down the defending Class A Champions, the Forrest Lady Rockets, by 15 points, before beating Grace Baptist Academy, a Sub-State team from a year ago, by 35. Things are looking very good right now in Clarkrange and they could get better if Coach Rogers’ girls are able to pull out wins against East Literature at home on the 20th and against a veteran Oneida squad on the road on the 21st.

4. Collinwood (0-0) – The Lady Trojans, who did not play last week, will get things underway this Tuesday when they travel to Cornersville to face the Lady Bulldogs in a game that could be a preview of a future Region 6A first round tournament game.

5. Oneida (1-0) – The Lady Indians used smothering defense to limit potential AAA Miss Basketball candidate Angela Puleo to only fourteen points in a big win 11 point win over William Blount. This week, things get even harder on the girls from Oneida as they will face three very strong opponents, beginning with Clarkrange at home on the 20th, before participating in the Oliver Springs Thanksgiving Tournament where they will face AAA Powell on the 24th and AA Loudon on the 25th.

6. Forrest (1-1) – The Lady Rockets did not exactly get the season off to a great start when they fell to the Lady Buffaloes of Clarkrange by 15 and then struggled to put away a Franklin Road Academy team, who lost their three leading scorers from last season, by only 5 points after being up by nearly 20 points at one point. Forrest will have to play more solid and find Bussell some help if they expect things to get any better this week as they have four very tough games, beginning with LaQuinta Jefferson and AAA LaVergne on the 21st and AA York Institute on the 22nd in the Bridgestone Classic. Then the Lady Rockets will head to Columbia, Tennessee, to participate in the Thanksgiving Classic where they will face a tough, and big, Wayne County team on the 24th, before having to play an up-and-coming AAA Lawrence County team on the 25th.

7. Trinity Christian Academy (2-0) – The Lady Lions got back-to-back double-doubles from Sophomore Crickett Glenn as the TCA defeated SBEC before taking down Tipton-Rosemark by 72. TCA will only have one game this week as they host Region 8A opponent Fayette Academy on Tuesday in what should be another easy win for the Lady Lions.

8. Wayne County (1-0) – Wayne County postponed their Hall of Fame game against Region 6A opponent Richland due to sickness, but not before they were able to take down AAA Hickman County by 18 two days earlier. The Lady Cats better hope they are over their sickness, because they’ve got three tough match-ups in a home game against AA Loretto on the 21st, a game against Forrest on the 24th, and a game against Columbia, Alabama, on the 25th.

9. Madison Academic Magnet (2-0) – The Lady Mustangs got things underway this week with two convincing wins over District 14A bottom-feeder Humboldt and AA Ripley. Things should not get much tougher this week as Madison travels to play a pair of Class AA teams in Dyer County on the 20th and University School of Jackson on the 21st.

10. Jackson County (2-0) – The Lady Blue Devils got two easy wins this week as they downed Region 4A opponent Watertown by 28 and took out Grace Baptist Academy by 35. This week, Coach Brown’s girls will take on a pair of Middle Tennessee AAA schools when they host Kenwood on Friday and Independence on Saturday.

Best of the Rest: Oliver Springs (11), Richland (12), Cloudland (13), Gleason (T-14), Greenfield (T-14)

The Top 10 from last week went a combined 15 - 1, with the only loss being that of Forrest to another Top 10 team in Clarkrange. The top half moved around a little, but other then that most teams stayed put. Moore County dropped out of the "Best of the Rest" after struggling with AA Grundy County and losing to AA York Institute (who had lost to Clay County). Greenback also fell out after getting beat up by Oliver Springs. Westmoreland reamins on the outside looking in since I am not impressed with their 17 point win over an Eagleville squad who still has not recovered from losing Alsup.

Another outstanding job again this week.

No problem with the rankings but Forrest didn't "struggle with FRA" up by 20 the coach played his bench, deep, to give his young team some experience against some good players. he could of played 7 or 8 players and ran up the score but didn't.

You tell 'em Jim  We (Forrest) just put AAA Lavergne away quite easily tonight, also. Our game against York has been moved from Tues. to Wed......no problem with the rankings either ptguard12, there are some tough schools in the top 10 for sure!

ClarkRange, Collinwood, and Wayne County would beat Red Boling Springs on anyone's floor.

If the injury bug does not get out of Lynnville, Richland will not be mentioned in the top 15 for very long. :thumb:

Moore County will be back. Santa Fe will end up in the top 15 before it is done.

Clarkrange and Collinwood would both give RBS a very good game (probably beat them depending on where the game is played), but Wayne County does not have anyone versatile enough to defend Leonard (Daniels possibly could handle her?), nor does the Lady Cats have the speed to compete four quarters with them. Later on in the season, they might be ready, but right now, I do not think they are.

I took Richland's recent injury into account when I did the rankings and decided that I would give them the benefit of the doubt despite the fact that the injury to Duke will hurt them significantly down the road.

Moore County got blown away last night by Lincoln County (who Summertown beat by 6 less then a week ago). I have said this all along about Moore County, they have to find someone of capable of playing well in the post and they have to get over all of their issues if they are going to be a contender this year.

Santa Fe is a very good ball team, but they need to prove themselves by winning a game against a high quality team.
