Have you seen what Oak Ridge is doing against tough out of town competition?

We can all see what the Wildcats did against one out-of-state team tomorrow, Sunday, December 31 at 4:00 pm on Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS). Oak Ridge's game against St. Thomas Aquinas (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) in the Kreul Classic championship will be televised according to the Oak Ridge basketball webpage. I won't give the final score in case some people do not know it yet. St. Thomas Aquinas 6-3 guard Martavis Kee has signed to play at Temple University and 6-8 post Jack Eggleston has signed with Penn. They also play another 6-8 player as well as a 6-6 players close to 300 pounds. Oak Ridge made it to the Championship game by posting victories over Lexington, SC ( 49 - 40 ), Coconut Creek, FL ( 65 - 48 ), and Cypress Bay, FL ( 56 - 50).

This Tuesday, the Wildcats return to the court to host the Bradley Central Bears.

~~Go Wildcats!

If they are waiting unitl January they need to stop charging the schools money to run the PREPXTRA. Charge half if they are only waiting half of the season to do it. No one cares about local newspaper rankings. But parents give coaches and athletic directors a hard time because they can't see their child's stats or articles or whatever. Give basketball the same respect and coverage that they give football that's all. Smaller and larger areas cover their local teams much better.

Don't see how you have Powell ranked up there above Pigeon Forge. They've lost to a bad Clinton team and were outplayed/hustled by an average at best Catholic team. Pigeon Forge is talented, deep and very well coached. They return most of their players from last years Sub-State team and have added Harper who gives them a nice lift inside. If we're counting Bradley Central as a PrepXtra team, I think if you've seen both Bradley Central and Fulton, you'd have to go with BC. Fulton would struggle to stop BC's post play and Oglesby. Bearden doesn't have the guard play needed and are too inconsistent in the post despite having 2 of the area's top young posts. Conner is playing as well as anyone in Knoxville right now but he isn't getting consistent help. They are a 3 player team at best.

1. Bradley Central * Giving them the benefit of being in the PrepXtra

2. Oak Ridge

3. Maryville

4. Fulton

5. Greeneville

6. Farragut

7. Pigeon Forge

8. Austin East

9. Bearden

10. Halls

10. Claiborne County * if Bradley dropped off

Let's start the new year with an update (this ranking does not include Bradley

Central in the PrepXtra area) :

1. Oak Ridge (First Place is hard to rank. Based in their performance in Fla.)

2. TIE - Fulton and Greenville - Fulton continues to play the best defense in the area and has solid scoring in Gallman and Minor. Greenville still performing at a high level.

4. Farragut - only losses to Fulton. The team is deep with 9-10 solid players. Play Powell, Oak Ridge and Maryville over the next 2 weeks.

5. Marryville - Maryville and Farragut play Jan. 16. Maples is back and will make a difference.

6. Pigeon Forge (still unbeaten)

7. Austin East (playing very well - Play Fulton Jan. 5)

8. Halls - Guard play still keeps them ahead of Bearden

9. Bearden - Young guys starting to step-up. Simpson had a strong Super 16.

10. don't know - Loudon, Seymour, Catholic and Anderson County all are playing well. It's between one of these four.

I think OR will be the team to beat unless something unforseen happens to them. I do not think any team will come within 15 points of beating them.

I thought ORANGE tinted glasses were reserved for UT Football! Seymore is the third option for Powell which you wouldn't consider a "great player" to be. Didn't he only have 3 baskets against Catholic and let his man (a sophmore that hasn't played in 3 years) score 17? Wanna bet on Powell winning the district? Tourney- maybe in an upset. They have no post game which will lead to struggles against O.R., Farragut, Bearden and Maryville on down the line. Have you seen what Oak Ridge is doing against tough out of town competition?

Good point, IrishBball. Powell really struggled with Farragut's post game last night.

Oh wait, Powell won by 15 at Farragut. Never mind.

Farragut shot from the outside way too much in that game. they barely even tried to drive to the basket. Powell drove to the basket almost every time. and theyd get fouls which i think later on translated into easier shots because Farragut wouldnt try to stop them or block the shot because they knew the ref would call a foul. • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
