I disagree somewhat...... speed cann't be taught but it can be improved upon.

Quickness can be improved also. There is a difference. It depends on what type

or what sport you are playing. Coaches all have drills and methods/ suggestions to develope or increase these skills........to a point. A 300 pound lineman cann't run a 4.4 but can increase their quickness............

Speed is one thing that can not be taught,if you don:t have speed nothing will help.

I agree. You are born with speed, you can increase it a little bit but not much.

Disregard all these previous posts, they're completely ignorant.

Speed = stride frequency x stride length x strength

The most trainable of which are stride length and strength. Work on stretching you hamstrings, hip flexors, and glutes every day to improve your flexibility and thus stride length. For strength, get in the gym and squat, box squat, and deadlift HEAVY weight. Do not substitute leg press, studies have shown it is useless for strength development.

Also, fat does nothing but slow you down. If you want to be faster, get rid of excess body weight through healthy dieting.

You can definetley improve your speed and athleticism by leaps and bounds, it just takes hard work.

Speed can be improved....I guess these schools are wasting money hiring strength coaches???? You can get in the weight room and get stronger, plyometrics will help with quickness. STRETCHING is probably one of the most important factors.

Robb Rogers is very good at MTSU. Go to their website and click on athletics and go to strength and conditioning and drop him an email, he is pretty good at getting back to you and answering any questions you have.

Their is also a couple of places in Nashville and Knoxville called D-1 Training, and other strength and conditioning places that will have all kinds of help.

You can also go to the National Strength and Conditioning ######. www.nsca-lift.org, I believe you can find a C.S.C.S. profession in your area.

Hope these help!

    • Congratulations to Huntingdon and Station Camp. Lots of good softball in Tennessee. Alcoa been media favorite last two seasons.
    • Im more of a Basketball follower than football and like I said we play what we have, there is no going and recruiting or even talking kids into transferring…..and to rebut about Memphis teams in finals I’ve watched Memphis East and Penny Hardaway with the enrollment of a single A team play up and dominate any and all challengers for years! They aren’t the only ones either Mike Miller and son at Germantown put together that super team a couple years ago that ran through the rest of the state! Other teams from Memphis or Chatt or Nash or any large populated area pop up and are relevant out of nowhere every year because they get an influx of talent be it from a new coach or AAU affiliations it happens in football also just like any other sport! I hope these two schools that close join together and get to play the team you support, then you may see it differently! I find it funny some of you think recruiting and resources don’t matter . The county schools get very little funding also but you don’t want to get me started on that part!
    • In a total classless move, Coach Simmons once again shows his true colors. Waits till the day after school is out to let everyone know he is leaving. Fails up to a community college job after a lackluster 2 year span at GH. And do not tell me about the state run that saved a sub .500 season and plenty of whippings by Cookeville and Lebanon.  Looks like the girls job at GH is cursed. Terrible MS program/coaches feeding what is turning out to be a joke of a HS team.
