Since all the threads turn negative, lets get something going that would be positive. Who are the all time greats to wear the Blue and Gold? Best QB, best lineman, best defensive player, best running back? Let's hear it.

QB- John Swafford

Lineman- Charlie Housley

This is a great thread. I don't know much about the history of bledsoe football but would have to put:

QB -1983

#33 - 1983

big fullback -1983

TB - 1986 (wow still have nightmares)

the player who led the defense - 1986

#10 1987 good athlete

QB was John Swafford (I think everyone agrees)

#33 Houston Thomas played special teams at UT

TB was Bart Myers (had to be one of the best)

I think you are talknig about Jim Swafford if you are talking about the linebacker, he was all state and John's younger brother (hard player but not the talent of his big brother)

#10 was Travis Terry, really good athlete played several different positions, but '87 was only his junior yer

Glad to see someone remember Avery Neely, no doubt best receiver we ever had. He could have been the most under rated player BCHS ever had. He was the first BCHS player to score a touchdown in college and I lost track but I know he played some basball at Sewanee as well. Does anyone know where he is now?

Some of those names are really good. Swafford was a good linebacker but probably his best attribute was simply that he was on a very good team that had probably the best defense that ever was down there.

As for MVP - John Swafford, Tommy Terry, Tony Sapp, Bart Myers or Robert Sharp could all be your picks here. Can't imagine what each of their teams would have been like without them. But just like the Heisman trophy it is much easier to give it to a QB. Also, he did do much more than just play QB.

The Simmons boy was a good athlete and would probably be one of the best receivers. Also, John Boynton Jr. had a good set of hands and made some nice catches.

    • I have no affiliation with Maryville anymore outside of being a 2nd generation graduate from a large family of Rebel alumni. That relationship ended courtesy of the lame duck AD (a Bearden grad I might add) and the HBIC. That said, I could care less if a private school comes through and offers every promising athlete out of that school or any other school better opportunities.
    • A perfect example is for athletes at Clinton High School. I will completely understand, and hopefully everyone should understand why they want to, and as of right now, it looks like that’s going to happen in numbers over the summer.
    • I mean, that’s easy to say when it hasn’t happened to your school that often, if at all, but yeah, I think everybody should be for the student athlete or player. Whatever they think will help them or their athletic career, I feel like they should be able to do that, even if that means transferring schools. Now I don’t really get that when you have almost every offer you could want and then jump ship, but what can I say? I guess money talks.
    • I for one am all for it.
    • Covid killed the city because they chose not to play football in the 2020 season. Therefore, kids weren't able to practice and develop, and continuing to lift weights. Memphis basically had 7/8 graders, skipping a year, then playing 9/10 high school football. Now, there's only one team that has made a "dent" which will be Southwind (made it to the 5A semifinals last year).  If you want to go more suburbs, then it'll be Houston, which won the 6A state title, defeating Oakland Other than that, I agree.
