Who did I see at the game?

The games Tuesday night gave particular reflections on the season and previous and how players develop mind sets during their sports careers. Its difficult to see except in extreme situations, when ones back is against the wall and play is needed to make a difference.

Kristen Sigenthauler has been known as a player that loves the game as much as anyone could, if fact, lives, breathes, and sleeps it. Up until this year, talent has never been a question but inconsistancy seemed to be an enemy. It appears that, with time, some of that is disappearing and this player is playing some of the best basketball of her career. With one of Siegels best players in foul trouble Friday night and for that matter the past number of games Sig, stepped up and has provided the lift that put Siegel in front of a very good performance by an inspired LHS team. It was what players do in clutch situations to help their team and their team mates after 4 years of High School play. It is an opportunity to prove the time spent in the gym was worth it and it is a time that the support that parents have given can be seen to help a player meet their dreams of making a difference in their play. Congrats to the Siegenthaulers. This player is playing the best basketball of her life.

Allison Wright certainly is in that same catagory. After watching an older sister and brother excel in basketball and spend many hours in the gym with two supportive parents, the weekdays and weekends are generally spent at a gym somewhere helping a talented player meet their goals. One of five children makes this particularly hard and sometimes one sees the support group of uncles and grandmothers along with anyone else that has an interest in their play. Support groups are needed, especially in large familys but provides a cheering section for players that they will not forget for life and to help juggle the time frames needed for someone to be there.

Allison Wright has played good basketball and sports since a nine year old and loves what she does. But as her sister and brother did for her, has felt the need for doing the same with her sister who also plays for Siegel. Her play has been consistant thruout her career but really has been shown in the clutch play provided this year. Her play, certainly, helped Siegel fill the gaps needed for Siegel to be successful in their play this year.

Morgan Faulkner, the oldest of three sisters, is another one the " gym rats" on Siegels team. Along with the other two mentioned here, she could not have participated in what she loves to do without the support of some parents which spent the time on the field and in the gyms of events all over Tennessee. Certainly the support groups can be seen at any of her games as interest, as with the other players, is to help their players meet their individual goals. Her play, at times, is the best of her career from every viewpoint, and is able to contribute what is needed. Her next new role is to help her sister, an aspiring volleyball player reach her goals also and a younger sister, do the things that would help her excel in her particular interest. That is what sisters do.

These are profiles on three good players but these are also the profiles on three good student Athletes who have depended on some help and have been supported to reach their dreams. They are more than just players on their team.

Nice words and all schools can say these things about a couple of kids on their teams. However, hasn't siegel underachieved a little this year? I have no interest in this district but keep up with it and according to posts as the season was kicking off you would think they were going to be great, not 11-7. Looking at their results they only have what I would call 1 or 2 quality wins. They have a good coaching staff and good kids from what I know but are they where you that post about them want them to be? Could be wrong but just an outside observation.

Siegel was playing good team basketball this summer. They do not have any superstars like Wilson Central or Riverdale, but have acheived success through team work. Several things happened that derailed the progression. A key player quit because her heart was no longer in it. Danielle Srurlock, a 6 ft post player, went down with a knee injury and has been working hard to get back to her form of last year.

Participation is and always has been a problem with Siegel. The Coaching style at the Middle school has made many athletes quit basketball and go to another sport. Coach Bush has the reputation of being a stern task master. making his players work very hard, and many don't go out because they fear it is too tough. Siegel has very little bench, if you consider minutes of playing time.

What has happened this year is not surprising. They want to win and have led after the third quarter in almost every game, only to fade in the fourth because of fatigue. As the year has progressed, the team has gotten stronger and their conditioning is as good as any team in the State. I disagree with your accessment of quality wins. District 7aaa is as balanced from top to bottom as it has ever been. Look at the scores.

Siegel has played a tough, tough schedule. They played in tournaments in AL and Knoxville that featured very strong teams that aren't reflected here on coach T. We could have gone to FL and played in a cupcake tournament and brought home a trophey, but our coaching staff made the decision to play the best of the best. All of these factors have contributed to the success or lack there of we have experienced this year.

Their is not a girl on the team that doesn't give 110% effort every game. They will continue to improve and win or lose, will have had a great season.

Thanks for the insight and thanks for giving the info in a friendly manner. So many times people only know about a team by hearing from their fans or just by numbers on a scoresheet. Good luck in the second half.

Pres - would have to agree with you on your points. Shame we don't have a good feeder system from the Middle School, should be one of our greatest strengths, but don't see any synergy at all between the two.

Regarding our HS team - I hate to use the word "chemistry", but really think it applies. Doesn't seem like we are ever able to get whole team on same page and be hitting on all cylinders. Not blaming players or coaches, I know all are working hard. I also thought we played well this Summer and expected to build on those results. Hoping that it is all coming together at the right time. Rather peak at the end vs. at the start of the season.

7AAA is balanced except for the bottom 2 teams.

But very respectfully, the way Blackman has been playing lately, it may be the bottom one. 7AAA needs 8 very respectable teams that will give each other some kind of tussle every night. the District will be better. Fan attendance will be better. Player retention will be better. it will get there.

Good post. Not getting in to the coaching part of this discussion. Coach Bush was all right last year with a 26-9 record and he will be all right at the end of this season. Technically one of the best coaches around but as every coach does, there are moments that he would like to have back. the end of the day is would a parent want their daughter to play in his system and with the values he stresses? No question about that and his staff has to emulate the head coach.

Pres, you are giving the impression that there are too many excuses. Sure those things happened but every other team has gone thru the same situationsand some worse and thats why young people need to learn that early, thats life. So what is the reason for underachievement. 25 really has a good reflection as to why and taking his words, this team has about the same players, a year older, played a lot of basketball this summer but has not reached the maturity level they were at last year, Thus Chemistry is the main word and it is unsure that they will reach it or their fans. There is no question they are better and playing better and the effort is 110%. Irregardless of what one may think, the maturing process is going on and while this team iws not a new team, the way it plays together had something to be desired and still does. Personal goals may have to be set aside to achieve what the team wants. Can the record get back to last years?

They will have to run the table. but maybe a goal of returning to the region and trying to get to the substate is a good goal.

There are two good teams in the District and it will be hard.

    • Im asking everyone to keep roy whited and his family in your prayers. Coach whited won back to back state championships at white county in 98-99. He is very well liked and respected in this area. For those of you that dont know he went missing 3 days ago. No one knows where he is. His truck was found in a rural part of the county. Thanks again. We are all very concerned.
    • West would be a good team to get behind if they can pull it off again like last year. That championship game last year was awesome.
    • I say that because he stepped out of a MUCH better situation on his own than he would see at least his first 3 years at DCA and it would take at least that much to bring him back to coaching. There are other fish in the sea, but again money talks. Need to fix the girls hoops too. Now I'll try again. Who has Pierce locked in for his staff? Hearing a McGavock man but not the Iceman.
    • I’ve heard mostly good things from the gridiron. Lots of optimism. It sounds like the portal has mostly helped, though there are a few expected defections. Comeback year!
    • Rudesell 1 year at Crockett. Coach Tate 2 weeks a Bradford. South Gibson supposedly going with jcs middle school coach. Which isn’t who I thought would get it, I know the top 2 was between him and Obion girls head coach.
