Northwest

After playing for the old Northwest Staff for a number of years, including the 9-3 and 7-4 seasons I think it is time for a change. I was able to see how the coaching staff operated, and though I personally didn't agree with many of the tactics I kept my mouth shut because I believe it was not my place to judge. However now that I am away from the school and out of Clarksville I find myself looking back at those times and questioning why I or any of my team mates put up with what we went through. Now don't take this the wrong way, we were never singled out or punished for something that we shouldn't have been punished for. But I remember several days in Summer Camp or during the season when a coach (not laying out any names) would tell one of the lineman to take out a younger guy because he wasn't up to par or because his parents were causing problems in the principals office.

Many such events took place at Northwest during my four year tenure. Well three years and two games I should say. I was asked to leave the team because I had been deemed a bad influence because I no longer followed coaches expectations as a senior and a leader. Now that I look back on it I am glad I was asked to leave instead of having one of the other players "deal" with it as I had been asked to do so on some occasions.

Now some people may say that dark times are coming for Northwest, but I don't think that is the case. Granted the win and loss column may be sore eyes for a few years but I believe that Coach Shrenk will be able to bring a decent program to Northwest in the coming years. Though I have not personally played for him I do believe that he will teach the kids more about life than winning games. After all, isn't that was highschool ball should be about? It is about teaching kids to work hard for the common good, not about eliminating the weak links through questionable methods.

I wish Coach Shrenk the best of luck, and I hope the new staff will be able to give the kids at Northwest a good dose of true leadership and life lessons. With everything that has happened with Northwest over the last month with 4 kids dying in car accidents I think everyone should calm down and look at the more important aspects of life. Winning and losing only matters in the stats, but lessons in life will carry you forvever.

This sounds like footballen/coachchris left; kinda like the kid that took his ball and went home when he got mad.

I heard that coach chris was not wanted at nw and was asked to leave, I did not get t he impression that he had the option to stay on board with the new coach.

Only after the third game my junior year when I was told to leave the team because a senior had missed the entire week of practice and was still able to play. I was the offensive line captain at the time and closest player to the coaches. I was asked by my team mates to say something about which I did. The following day I was pulled out of a pep rally, placed in a room one on one with the Defensive Coordinator and line caoch and horse cussed for the better part of an hour because I stood up for my team mates. After that I realized the coaches were in it for themselves. They wanted to make themself a big name in the state rather than do what was right. The senior should have been made an example of and had to sit that game. It was unfortunate that he had medical circumstances that prevented him from coming to practice that week. But there is no excuse!

Glad we see eye to eye now Kelly.

Coach Chris left for a better opportunity at another school. He is a good guy, and will talk to you about it if you contact him. However, many of the people who post on this web page do not have the gutts to talk to these people, but would rather run their mouths than be men. As for you mr. choate, yeah, i played along your side in high school, grow up and remember you were a spoiled brat that got whatever you wanted. Wait, you left when you could not get your way. Don't run your mouth boy. Trust me, I deserved to play that week because i was the better man. NOT A PERSON THAT RUNS FROM PROBLEMS!!!!! Go back to your rich little college, and stay there. PLEASE!!!!

Let sleeping dog lie. Everyone on the team knew who had a problem with who. I believed I was right standing up for my team mates and I believe I was put in my place that Thursday afternoon when I was told "Thats why your the player and I am the coach." It should have ended there and not dragged on to the following day, but hind sight is always 20-20. As far as I am concerned nothing can be done or will be done about it now. I wish Myers the best of luck at Hillsboro. I will Southerland the best of luck teaching at KWMS and hope he finds success Coaching at the Eagle's Nest. Though it is hard to swallow I wish Meriweather the best of luck at APSU and hope he finds success in the world some day. But most importantly I want to wish Northwest the best of luck and I hope their players find success on and off the field. After all, life goes on after those 40 friday nights.

Good luck,

I think the head coach will be just fine here at Northwest. I hear good things from some of the players and I think they are on the right path. I hope he can find some suitable assistants and the principals will help him get some hired. I hear that at least one of them will have to work in another school because Northwest doesn't have the right openings for coaches. I think one is looking at New Providence middle to teach, so maybe the principal there will help the coaches out and get a good staff on there at Northwest.
