District 6-A

Didn't Arts & Sciences win 6-AA and 3-AA Region runner-up to McMinn Central and lose in the substate at Lipscomb the year before they went back to Single A with Marsh and crew? That's why they are that good. They played at AA with Howard, East Ridge, etc. and they know what it takes. Arts & Sciences is basically a AA school talent wise playing at a A level. But 23-0 in district play in two years is still a great accomplishment.

CSAS 22-0 in district play over the last two years....The closest game this year in district was 17 points to Sale Creek...Also CSAS only lost two JV games all year as well....What more do you want the coach todo with this talent in the district?

That is impressive. I guess will have to see what happens. It could go either way and whom ever they chose would deserve it.

South Pittsburg had a rough year due to not having a gym. That would be hard to handle. But we must remember that Rh played in box gym forever and no one made excuses for them then.

At least you had a gym! It was a really crappy one, but you had one! Why would RH make excuses about the CrackerDome? If anything, it was the ONLY advantage you guys had! It kept CCS from coming in there and mauling you every year and it was the only way you kept other non-Paint Rock Valley teams within 50 points. Has anyone ever seen a basketball game where all the players had to walk the court (because if they tried to run they'd hit a wall before they could stop)? That was the CrackDome. There's no comparison here. Having a craptacular facility is preferable to no facility at all.

They won the regular season and finished 4th in the tournament. they drew McMinn Central in the 1st round of the region(ranked #1 in the state) and sent them home. They lost to Walker Valley in the finals and lost at Libscomb thanks to some fine Nashville officiating.

Well the Marion County School Board and South Pittsburg shouldn't have torn down the old gym in the first place. I'm not an architect by any means, but the gym could have been built somewhere else. Yes, the Crackerbox was horrible, it was slick,it was just flat out bad, but that's in the past.

Yep. It's too bad the people in South Pittsburg can't see the REAL problem with getting this gym deal done. The IQ level of this town has slipped severely in recent months (It wasn't very high to start with).

i don't think that the csas coach should win. sure his team went undefeated two years in a row but that was the team. i went to the CSAS vs SP game tuesday and he didn't even start his only two seniors. and it's not like they were terrible one of them had 30 or more points and the other had like 12 and a monster dunk. that just doesn't seem like something a coach of the year would do.

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
    • No movement on Chester? South Gibson? Gibson County?
    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
