Claiborne has beaten G-P twice this season. They have a 19 - 3 record and have not lost to any AA teams this season. Can someone explain this?

They have a better record and more tradition and people accross the state who vote on it, that's all they see.

There is no explanation that makes sense. Probably the people in the Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge area know more influential people than most of us. Its sad, but politics airs its head in almost any venue. G-P has a good team, but with CC beating them twice how could anyone put them ahead of the Lady Bulldogs.

That is true. For example, Shelbyville is always rated high. Sometimes they deserve it sometimes they don't. Notre Dame’s football team is always rated higher than they deserve. I think it’s just a lazy mentality of not looking deep enough into what you are doing.

Same reason Greeneville is ranked #1 in AAA ahead of Wilson Central and Cleveland who both beat them...who knows.

Its an opinion poll: simple as that. Polls don't affect outcome of competition. The teams that get the recognition that counts end up in Murfreesboro in March; and specifically earn the gold ball when its all over.

The only poll that matters is the poll at the end of the year. Sure, it doesn't make sense that GP is ranked above Claiborne. GP doesn't have tradition. They have never really been that strong in girls basketball, they have never been to the state tournament and Claiborne has. However, the way Coach Rader is going, they could get there soon, he has turned that program around in a hurry. Claiborne and GP are both good teams, but I don't see either of them getting to the Boro. They have both played very weak schedules this year, especially GP, and that will hurt them come Region tournament and sub-state time. Also remember, Claiborne won the district title out right last year only to lose in the semi-finals. District 2AA was full of upsets last year with the 3 and 4 teams playing in both the district and region tournament. Look for teams like Rutledge, Pigeon Forge, and Cumberland Gap to make a good effort to spoil Claiborne and GPs championship hopes. Good Luck to all teams in the tournament, it should be a good one! Congrats to Claiborne on a regular season championship!

Just had to put in a good word for Claiborne. I have watched these girls all season long play great ball. I have watched them beat some good 3A ball teams and watched the ones they lost to crawl back after halftime deficites to win by just a few points. These were all highly ranked 3A teams. They are clearly a very good team, very well coached and have what it takes to go a very long way. They also find it hard to get respect no matter who they beat. On GP's home turf Claiborne's freshman scored 25 points to clinch the second defeat for GP. The only respect they will get is from their peers on the ball court and not from polls that are decided by people who don't know what is going on.

GO CLAIBORNE
