Temple vs Friendship

Pasture, are you Rob Eldridge? I assume you will say no. I thought I'd ask. Everyone thinks you are. If you claim that you pulled in over $100,000 for Temple this year, then I will know that you are Rob.

Sounds like I missed a great game. I wish I could have been there. As for the guy shoving Dee, that guy better be glad Seth held Dee back.

Why didn't these things happen when I was in school. If I saw people treating my(temple) team the way it was described on here, I would have been the first person to showboat across the court last night.

If the student section was really using profanity, then you have to be ignorant to say, "They're just teenagers. Don't you remember when you were one?" I still am and there is no excuse for doing that. Of coarse kids will rant and rave. I did it. I was obnoxious at the games but there is no reason for Christians to use profanity. That reflects the administration and parents. I'm sure that Dad from FCS would have been like the pathetic Dad on the news and tackle an opposing player.

oh and Vandy, are you Jason Holwerda(sp?) Random question, but I thought I'd ask.

QUOTE(tk20football @ Mar 6 2007 - 12:51 PM) 826402161Josh, I do not know if Pasture is who you think he is, but you have worked to hard to get on here and worry about what everybody else is saying. You are a good kid so don't continue to lower yourself to the standards of some. You are angry with Temple and that is fine, just don't make yourself look bad. Good luck at State and good luck in football next season. What is the school you are going to?

Hey that's not Josh Smith.

But Josh is going Cumberland next year.

QUOTE(Pasture @ Mar 6 2007 - 08:53 AM) 826401899I thought the student section and the cheerleaders lacked class but they only acted that way because the administration has allowed it to go on.

Some things that were unnecessary was the turning the backs of the student section and cheerleaders while our players were being announced. While that may seem cute or funny, it is not, and it shows a lack of respect not only for the competition but the game. I would guess that when FCS lost to PC for the region, they did not applaud PC when the first place plaque was awarded. There are some things, while allowable in other arenas, ought not to be characteristic of Christian schools.

It is not hard to understand why the region 4 teams have such a distaste for FCS and it is unfortunate because there are quite a lot of classy fans who post on here. I felt sorry for FCS in their loss last night. They obviously worked hard to make it to the sectional and they have a good group of athletes. FCS was ill prepared for the match up last night just as we were in Lebanon back in the fall.

Actually FCS fans both parents and as unbelievable as it may have sounded even the student section clapped loud enough when Pickett got the plaque, There was no screaming or "go pickett" but i doubt that Arts and Science did more than clap for Temple.

This is something i simply disagree on. For example some public schools don't even bother to turn their back they simply make hand gesture's that you could guess and yell obsenities when the opposing team is being introduced

Trousdale hates us simply because we are private. Gordonsville has only hated FCS since FCS became able to compete with them...

I think that Coach Bradshaw did a good job of preparing them, but i would also bet that Temple probobly shot a good 20% more from the field and well over 25% more than them from the line... hard to beat that.

QUOTE(Super Fish @ Mar 6 2007 - 09:56 AM) 826402006I'm not surprised....I heard a rumor that they are discussing taking christian out of their name as well they should. I respect Coach Bradshaw and i think he is a good coach and person- I do wonder how he puts up with all he must endure to coach at FCS. FCS is lucky to have him. We should all hold ourselves accountable for our actions and words- be they good or bad- YES the administration should Step Up but so should the parents, teachers, and student athletes at this or any school that acts the way they seem to act game after game after game

been talking about doing that for years now, but all it would be is we would join the ranks of temple and be an Academy

I agree

It is well established on the football boards numerous times that he is not rob eldridge.

If a kid was mad enough to shove him into the wall, what makes you think that he would not have invited young dee to take a swing at him (which he acted like he would by the way)

Well if you would be the first to showboat across the court then you are nothing more than the pot calling the kettle black when you say that you would have lead the idea of taunting and making things worse

I make an effort to not have or use excuses, they are of no use to me and they change nothing that has happened. I agree that it reflects badly on the school, parents... ect. But just like there is christian kids in a non-christian school there are non-christians in a christian school... does that makes sense to anyone besides me??

The dad was the father of the young man who shoved dee.... and he would not have touched an opposing player, he would have most likely tackled all three ref's

this comment makes no sense. I already stated that I would be the first. Don't repeat what I stated. I know what I said. Because of FCS's unclassy acts I would rub the win in their face. It's pathetic. I've never seen in all my years atTemple students, players, and parents react the way FCS did. Show some class. If you lose, face the music. Don't lose respect from those around you just because you can't take a loss like a man. And yes I am more than what you described me. I know how to show class when my team loses. I don't pitch a fit and use profanity.

If FCS would have responded to the game in a whole different manner, NONE of this would have taken place.

I in no way condone the actions of FCS, nor was i appart of it. But for you to say that FCS was classless, horrible and in this past post pathetic, and then say that you would respond to these actions with taunting of your own??? what is the biblical oppinion on going down to the level of those around you again?

I repeat that i am not saying FCS was in the green (no pun intended) in doing what they allegedly did.

You are a FCS fan. Their actions reflect on every FCS fan whether you like it or not. Then you go and try to use the Bible against me?! It's not your place.

I'm sure not all FCS fans are that shallow, but the way they acted, no FCS fan can come on here and say, "What does the Bible say about..."

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!??!?!?! as a christian that is insulting. You insinuate that because a group from my school acted wrongly it condems anyone close to that school to not be able to even use the bible??? You actually said IT IS NOT MY PLACE TO USE THE BIBLE?!?!?!?!?!

You, me, rob eldridge, coach skogen, john shoulders and no one else on earth has a right to judge other people or even groups when it comes to who can use the bible and who can't. If i were you i would get a reality check on that.

Part of me says to just stay out of this, but oh well.

My concern is the way this topic has thrown around the label of what is Christian (Xn) and what is not. I would encourage us all to just step back for a moment and maybe look at this way. The Xn life is one of growing up, of maturing. These are young kids, young Xn kids, both #11 and the fans behind our bench as well as my son Seth. I think some folks stepped out of line a bit, and I am never condoning defaming language or losing control even for a second and reacting, however, we all do this in the heat of the moment, I, wrongly, make this same mistake and must seek the Lord's grace when I do so, we, all of us, need to mature and some times falling down is part of learning how to live the Xn life. We all look back on things we said or did and think how we should have responded differently, and thank the Lord that He never quits His kind work of grace in us. If we are willing to make decisions that someone is not a Xn because of a rough play in a bb game or because of a swear word, then I think we have some bigger problems, namely, that we might not know what the gospel is.

I saw my son's actions, I understood them, especially in that situation, will he act the same way when he is my age? Probably not, (and he will be more mature than I am!) because the Lord will grow him up like He promises. Actions, even sinful ones have a context and as Xns we are to understand that, "let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall..." #11 was frustrated, he is an athlete, a competitor, and I would bet he is a pretty good kid, although I think his action was not the one to take, I would never make judgments about his love for the Lord based on one mistake. If that is the way we choose to live, then no one could be considered a follower of Christ, I know I wouldn't be. I would rather have people act as they are, even if it is rough and raw than pretend to play some religious game that is full of rules, self-righteousness,piosity and false at the heart, at least we can deal with that. Sorry, I got to rambling.

Let me also say that the student section may have gotten carried away, and I was worried about what my 13 year old daughter who keeps our stats was having to listen to but that in no way reflects on the school as a whole. There is probably some repenting needing to be done, but MOST of the cheering and trying to distract us was just part of the game, and to tell you the truth, some of it was pretty funny, there were some good stingers in there that made me laugh.

A number of FCS parents, faculty and staf came to me after the game and showed all kinds of class even apologizing for how things got a bit heated, (not that they needed to, competition teaches us, sometimes through our negative reactions.) I was not offended in the least and thought that those I spoke to were extremely humble and respectful.

As Xns we see sin for what it is, and we must never down play it, but it would be wise to always see our own sin as the bigger problem than everyone else's. I know who the "chief of sinners" is, and it is not anyone at FCS, it is the dope who is writing at 6:07am on this post.

Grace to cover all our sins....thanks for listening (reading) my rambling.

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.
    • Dyersburg scrimmaged South Gibson last week
    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
