Postseason Split

According to tssaa.org, 31 private schools in D1 with 25 playing football. 39 schools in D2 with 29 playing football.

It seems very reasonable that privates can play diverse schedules with that many teams at each level, and never need to play a public. Who are the opponents to a split? Both public and private? TSSAA?

Some on here talk as if the problem isn't playing in different divisions for the postseason, it's that they're being "punished." My answer to that would be force the public schools go to Division II and move all the privates back to Division I with those remaining in the group. Nobody gets "punished."

So you are proposing 2 classifications? A DII which is public, and a DI which is private? Tiny schools like Celina playing in the same classification as schools like Riverdale? And Super 7 privates playing the likes of Lighthouse Christian? Maybe I'm totally misunderstanding what you are saying. If so, please set me straight.

Yes, I was being silly with the switching around of Division I and II schools. Being forced into a district or classification you may not like is nothing new and happens every year, Brainerd's basketball team was not pleased to be placed in a district with Polk County, Meigs, etc last year and the coach made a fuss about it in the paper. There were around 18 basketball teams in the Chattanooga area in AA, so some in Chattanooga had to go east tp 5AA, some had to go in 6AA with some teams west of Chattanooga. Being placed in a different classification is not too different than being in a different region as you'd hoped, in my view.

It would be possible (and perhaps easiest) to leave the regions just as they are now, add the private schools to the regions for regular season play only, and separate for the playoffs. It just seems that, if you are going to make a change of this magnitude, why not go back and let schools play their more traditional rivalries? This way, if you choose to travel 100 miles to play someone it is your choice to do so, not a mandate.

Coacht, with playing each other in the regular season, do you see any issues with playing a team that might be wanting and looking for ways to bring your players to their school?

Sure, there will be some of that. Each school would have to look at their own history and see who they want to play. If you set up the regions the way they are now, and add private schools to that, then the chance of having to play someone you don't prefer to play would be greater. Most schools will not have a probelm with it as long as they do not meet in the playoffs.
