Hey, I'm needin' to talk some WB football. TPoole, WillieB, TG ... somebody that got to see the Hall's scrimmage. How did we look? I heard some good reports but I also heard that Halls was missing several kids because of other sports. Of course, I suppose the same would hold true for the Govs???

Halls was missing a few players due to baseball and other events, but the Govs looked very strong. The final score was 41-6, but William Blount put up 21 in the first quarter alone and held Halls scoreless until the very late stages of the game. The offense preformed very well, Darren Garner made some huge plays and really had some breakout runs. I believe there was over 500 yards of total offense for the Govs, but don't hold me to that number. All in all, both teams looked good and played well. I am still looking for an update on the injured quarterback from Halls, and my prayers along with everyone at WB are with him.

We are looking very strong so far, and if we continue to keep up the good, hard work and continue to improve throughout this summer and into the fall, you should see some good football!

QB Hunter Snodderly came home from hospital earier this week.

He has pins in both major bones of left leg. 8-10 weeks in softcast then long rehab.

His parents brought him to practice Monday in the family car. Seems in good sprits all things concidered.

I believe another player, Taylor Babcock broke his collar bone also in this game.

Good luck to to the GOVs. They look mighty tough from our side.

1. Defense - I think that WB will have a very though defense this year. They will have a great crew of linebackers this year led by Irwin and Lail, I am excited to get watch garland return to the field – he is a very tough player. Also added this year to the linebacker crew will be Spencer Brown, a transfer from Heritage during his freshman year – he sat out last year I believe. I have heard rumors of 3-5 defense this could be exciting.

2. Offense – During the scrimmage WB ran some 5-wide sets. This is something that I haven’t seen out of WB in a long time. Darren Garner ran around everybody – he will be fun to watch this year. Vineyard looked liked a good quarterback playing for Tyler (baseball). It looks like WB has had some new people come out to the team to play a little receiver. Brad Cochran will provide some height and amazing athletic ability. I also saw Roger Cunningham on the sidelines – I think if Roger go out for the wrestling and golf teams he will have played on every team that WB has to offer – great athlete. The O-line does look big and strong – Greene, Madden, and Jackson are all huge guys that will help Tyler out if they are in fact going to go to a throwing offense.

I have to be real careful about getting to "giddy" about the prospects of this year's Governor team, because we all know that "hope springs eternal" each pre-season. But there is no question that Coach Meadows and staff are going to have a lot of weapons this year.

As always, we'll play as tough of a schedule as anyone in the state I believe. We'll have a much clearer picture of the team after the first two games: Sevier County and Dobyns-Bennett. Along with those two, you throw in Ooltewah, Oak Ridge, Farragut, McMinn County ... you have to respect Soddy Daisy, Bradley, and Heritage ... and then of course you got to play Maryville. I'm not sure any team has any three tougher "out of region" games than the Govs.

You could be a pretty decent football team and still go 5-5 real easy with this schedule. A 7 - 3 season would be spectacular ... an 8-2, I believe, would probably represent the best team in the history of the school.

I know the team has "set the bar high". They want to go to Murfreesboro ... I think that is awesome ... you've got to aim high.

For the Old Govman, this season I'd love to:

* Announce at least a couple of "home" play-off games

*Show that the win over DB last year wasn't a fluke

*Exact some revenge on Ooltewah

* See where our radio crew gets to set up when we visit McMinn County (inside joke)

* See Burnett, Shiver, Douglas, & crew still in the game having to compete in the fourth quarter when we play Maryville

Should be a fun year!!!

I hope all your wishes come true! I've got some good friends there this year in Lail and Poole. I'm pulling for you! /wub.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wub.gif" />
