Whatever happened to Qb's and Wr's throwing all summer long by themselves? 7 on 7 is nothing more than an organized excuse just to get players and coaches together. If the team is working out and running with a conditioning program, the QB's, RB's, and WR's can all work on timing themselves rather than come together for a 7 on 7 skelly game of touch. Besides, I have witnessed a few players suffer season ending injuries by these deals. Total waste of time IMO!

7-on-7 tournaments are very good for further practice and developing your skill position players. If you don't think that, then check out half the other states in the SE and see how many of their skill position players are going to the SEC as opposed to those in this state. Seems like if something can in the slightest way help a certain aspect of the team as well as possibly help a individual player further develop and maybe have something open up for them in terms of a college education and maybe even more...seems like that's a good thing and not entirely a waste of time.

This thing about the players not getting a chance to be themselves or what not, that's total bunk. Heck, half of them would just be playing AAU basketball and summer baseball if they weren't doing those camps/tournaments. I guess that'll be the next thing for the TSSAA to stick their nose into.

I can go along with that, and thats true. I just dont think you can get anything acomplished by only going 25 yards and not having the other intangibles as pass rush and other conditions. Why not just play flag rules with shield blocking for the linemen? But all in all, I would agree with you totally on the deal for younger players like JV and Freshmen to go along with.

Spoken like a true lineman. Am I right?

Hoover beat Prattville for the National Select 7 on 7 Tournament in Overtime by going for a 2-point conversion. These teams finished last year ranked in the top 20 Nationally. Ask these two Head Coaches and their players if they think it is football and is it beneficial. If you want to be just a good running team that competes for region titles then don't compete in 7 on 7. If you want to teach your kids how to make it to the next level, you will do 7 on 7. The best teams in the nation compete in 7 on 7. Colleges do this all summer and the pros to it all the time. Do these college and pro coaches do it to kill time or are they trying to improve their teams?

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
