Yeah, but I would miss some there are many. Here goes: Melton, Knight, Armes x2, Massengill, Duncan, Haynie, Tuff Huff, Alley, Wilson, Smith, Doughty.

There are many more. These guys will contribute every time the team is on the field in some way. Whether it be smarts, speed, strength, or pure athletic ability. If they don't panic, play as a team, and remember their coaching, it will be another banner year. Rest on what last years team did, and they will be cellar dwellers and practicing basketball in November.

Is Wilson going to be the starting center? Is the line going to be the strength of the offense?

Starters are a coaching decision and I won't know until they line it up. As for the line being the stength, they will be tough but young. The strength will be speed coupled with a strong TB in the form of Knight. When he is at TB behind Tuff Huff (best blocking back in Region 2a IMHO) it will be explosive. When the ARMES tandum is in it will be scary speed with toughness. The finish of the run will be punishing with Knight.

Wartburg has a new coach but all I'll say IMHO is the people in "The 'Burg" better not be hoping for annual playoff trips or they'll be disappointed. They're in too tough of a region to consistently be a factor.

Coalfield lost A LOT which has me a bit hesitant to make them a lock for a three-peat in that region but Coach Kries will get the most out of the kids and they're gonna be tough again.

Sunbright has more cupcakes than a bake sale on their non-region schedule plus with all that they lost, this is gonna be more of a rebuilding year in Tiger Town.

Oakdale looks like they found a gem as a coach because he's seeming got enthusiasm back in Oakdale football but I'd give them a few years before they can be a factor.

CY, you know who is the best team in morgan county, the only team the jackets need to worry about are south of the river. The jackets should only think of Two things, Oneida and midway. Those 2 teams are

the only ones in the region to worry about. Oneida held them to 7 points and Midway was close just made alot of mistakes late.

I forgot , they did add Hampton, but that not a region game.

Coalfield needs to worry about every team, region or County. Period. I expect it, other fans expect it, and coaches demand it.

Don't forget about the OS game for the Jackets. Those two teams hate each other and it's truly a game in which the records can be thrown out the window. OS should have won the game last year until they caught a case of fumblitis in the fourth quarter. I know all six region teams as well as Wartburg and OS will have Coalfield circled on the schedule so the Jackets will have to bring their A-game all the time.

Muledog,

This is the third year in a row that I have heard this crap, they still haven't made it the the championship yet & until they make there I would like for u ppl to keep your mouths shut because your giving me a headache.

AMEN! I too have heard this talk of South Pittsburg for three or four years. Everyone knows about how s.p. would stomp everyone back in the mid to late 90's during their glory days, but they have been yelling state championship for four years. The only thing they have done in those years is go out in the 1st or 2nd round. Plus, I'm pretty sure this is a morgan county thread.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
