Congratulations to Craig Reavis and the LaVernge baseball team on winning the 2002 TSSAA AAA baseball championship tonite at Engel Stadium in Chattanooga. Coach Reavis may be the only active coach in Tennesse to play on a State Championship baseball team, at Tullahoma, and coach one as well. Kudos to Knoxville Farragut for a fine season and state runnerup.

Great job La Vergne. It was obvious that your team is talented, well-coached, and has outstanding chemistry. I was wondering however, how is it that Laverne and Oakland/Riverdale/Blackman are in the same county but don't play in the same region. Sounds like TSSAA favoring the mid-state again.

The way they do it appears to be as follows: First, you allocate regions to the grand divisions. The East and Middle get three, the West two. Now, you have to actually set up the regions. In the case of East Tennessee, Region 1 is the upper east, Region 2 greater Knoxville, and Region 3 greater Chattanooga.

Since one region out of the Midstate will have to play Chattanooga teams at section level, that region is composed of teams within a reasonable travel distance of the Scenic City. District 8 gets those that come in on US64, while District 7 is those further east, arriving on I24 or SR127. It is approximately a third of the Midstate's teams (14 of the 45 in Regions 4-6).

Then the other districts fall naturally into place. District 10 is the western suburbs, 11 the southern suburbs and south-central Metro, 12 the rest of Metro, and 9 the eastern suburbs.

Yes, Congrats to all of Lavergne's team and coaching staff. Coach Treadway is on his way up to Coach Reavis' level! His middle-school (junior high) team went undefeated this year and won their county championship as well. Cedar Grove's sure going to miss him as coach and teacher. Best wishes for your future!

    • Why? Low pay. Low budget thanks to the Rotary milking the programs revenue. Foul smell. There are other negative things... Positives: the players and being toward the top of the classification numbers wise.
    • What we have here is an influx of outsiders raining down on the town of Maryville like a swarm of locust trying to change our culture into the same crap they moved away from. I have no issues with anyone coming here but don't bring your politics with you. Most people around here never pay attention to the elections and keep letting the same ole rats and vermin right back in the back door and wonder why things are like they are. The problem at Maryville High is mainly due to letting outsiders get a foothold on control and shove their agenda down everyone's throat. Anyone that leaves there or let's say ranoff are replaced with an outsider with the same mindset. Eventually Maryville High will never be the same as it once was which I'm beginning to believe already but it's only chance of survival are to recruit people that will get in there and reverse the damage that has already happened.
