They are the second largest school in their region with over 900 students. They have almost 4A numbers. Maybe than can handle Chester Co.

You just hit on one of Lexington's biggest problems. They have a lot of students but few play football. Every year there is a big freshman class and every year, nearly, there is a small senior class. Attrition will always happen but the fact is Lexington doesn't have the numbers to compete year in and year out with the rest of the region. You can't consistently win with 30 to 35 kids not counting the freshman class. Not in 3a ball. Maybe in 1a but not 3a. Until they fix that problem it will always be the way it is. Compete for a year or two here and there and the other years will be lean.

You are right. You can get by if you work the kids hard and you have 30-35 PLAYERS in 10-12. Nothing wrong with low numbers but you have to retain PLAYERS or make them in the offseason. Several schools have large numbers of PARTICIPANTS but only a few players. It appears Lexington has low numbers of PLAYERS and PARTICIPANTS.

I do not know what you were expecting out of Liberty before Friday night, but they are better than their record. The only team that they had lost to that was not undefeated going into the last week was JCM and they fumbled and had two touchdowns called back in that one. The crusaders put it on Lexington and Lexington had no answers.

By comparison Scott's Hill has 50 kids participating in all grades but with half the student population. I don't know how many kids Lexington has playing but I am going to guess 60 in all grades and I won't miss it by much. A school with twice the population only has maybe 10 or so more kids participating in football????

Is there that much difference in kids from one part of the county to the next? I don't think so.

I think thats in all classes. But, only 9 of those kids had ever played organized football before. A new program is going to generate a lot of kids, if it wasn't they never would have started a team.

InspectorVol, I'm not trying to downplay what you are saying about the numbers. You called it last year and I give you props for that. It is a problem, I don't know why. The interest level after the players freshmen years goes way way down here. Could be a number of factors, but you are right. They lose a lot after their freshman year.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear. That is all classes, freshman through senior, 50 kids.

Lexington has about 60 through all classes. I could be off by 5 here but I doubt I miss it more than that. Typically they have a large freshman class every year but it doesn't carry over.

That's about right, but I still think a large number of those kids are freshmen and sophomores.

That is what I thought you meant and leads to my next round of questions. Why is Scott's Hill allowing Seniors to play JUNIOR Varsity? What purpose related to bettering your program does this serve? Why are they allowing juniors that will be seniors next year to play when only the current sophomores and freshmen are going to play an actual varsity game?

I would think one would want to get the kids that are going to play varsity ready. I know this is harsh but I put the premium on winning. Is it fair to those juniors and seniors who shouldn't be playing? You bet. That is tough. Since you will likely play in 2A in amongst some of the giants in the classification it would be in your best interest to be getting ready.

    • It was not ACHS at all, they have zero reason to worry about Clinton.  It had to do with a kid (non football player)  that had a charge and appeared in front of the juvenile judge.  The judge saw that the kid was way behind credit wise for his grade and told him to reappear in a month with a plan to graduate.  When the kid reappeared he had more that twice the credits than one month before.  The judge called BS and contacted the school.  That is what started the investigation.  This involves multiple students, but to this point no athletes are involved.
    • I believe the Covington Chargers travel to Trenton Peabody for a scrimmage today? Anyone going to this? Curious how the Chargers will do.
    • Good ole Bradley Zulliger. He was a really good QB @ OR. Fun to watch.  Wore #15 and was like a mini Tebow, with the exception of being right handed. He could take a pounding and keep on ticking. Played with a collapsed lung against Powell that year. Tough as nails.
    • They should be pretty good in year two for Rang.  Replacing most of the offensive production losing Dozier, Hayward and Rembert , but they're are skill kids in place ready for their shot.  I know I say this every year, but the o line should show improvement after two years in Rang and Kevin Day's weight program.  I still would favor West over Plow and OR come November.  The Rebs will have to grow up a bunch between now and then, and will probably take some lumps along the way with that schedule.  But I predict come playoff time they will be ready.   One of their coaches half joked to me that they could go 5-5 regular season and win the state championship.  Ha ha.
