The "S" Plan

This is what happenes when I wake up an hour early because of daylight savings time. This relates to the 2A playoff seeding/situation we've got going on right now. Give me some feedback here on what you think.

For simplicity's sake, we're going to keep D-2 the way it is now and assume there are roughly 300 schools playing football (but the "S" plan is universal). With that, under the S plan, there would be 4 classes of 75 teams each.

The state would be divided into 12 regions of 6 or 7 teams (ideally). The twelve districts would be placed into 4 sections/quadrants of 3 regions that would make up each quadrant of the bracket of the playoff bracket. The top 2 teams from each region would make the playoffs automatically. The other two spots would be wild cards spots. But, here's how it would be decided.

If each region had 6 or 7 regional teams, then teams would have either 5 or 6 region games. Add a requirement that on top of this, each team must schedule to play 7 total games against teams in it's quadrant. So on top of the 5 or 6 region games, a team would have to play either 1 or 2 other games against teams in it's quadrant that count towards playoff seedings. These can be determined by a coaches' meeting or whatever they see fit. The other three games can be against whoever.

After regular season, the two wild card teams in each quadrant would be determined by the teams who have the best record against teams in that quadrant, then apply tie-breakers. And seedings in each quadrant would be determined by overall record (maybe let region winners host first round no matter what).

It's based a lot on how NCAA Division 2 does it. That way, a team in east TN isn't fighting against a team in West TN for the final playoff spot and are instead going against more local teams to get in.

That's the brief version of it. A lot of holes to fill. But I'd love to hear some thoughts.
