I believe it is because of great coaches, dedicated at all levels, supportive parents and athletes who apply themselves, and tradition...nothing to do? I've also lived in large cities and young people there also had "nothing to do". There is endless outdoor recreation here...it is the top horseback riding area in the south. There are events all the time, clubs, movies, bowling, school activities, 4 wheeling, bicycling, an excellent library, plus a lot more and anyone with an imagination can keep themselves very busy.
