Is McBrayer leaving Union Co. to coach somewhere else? /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

I heard that he'd applied at Gibbs and that he might also be interested in Seymour, since Householder is getting out at the end of this coming season. Earlier in the year, I'd also heard that Oak Ridge would like to have him back.

I guess the folks of Union Co. wished they hadn't run off the last guy. Unrealistic expectations is a killer in Union Co. like many other schools. They run off a pretty good Coach and get a dud. Who would want to leave O.R. for Union Co. how good could he really be. Its not that the good people of Union Co. don't deserve a good Coach they just need to be patient when they get one. The biggest problem with Union Co. is the lack of stability in Coaching. Coaches get tired of the small town politics involved. Stuff like school board members throwing their weight around when their kid, nephew, cousin, etc doesn't get to play. U.C. needs to find a good young Coach and keep him happy so he won't jump ship at the first opportunity. As far as the guy leaving, it is most likely a blessing. Maybe he will take his brother with him.

I don't mean to be hard on Union Co. folks. I pay property taxes up there on a little place I have at Hickory Star. There are alot of fine people up there. I have come to know them very well. But some just have unrealistic expectation of their athletic programs.

For your info that "dud" left OR to get Head Coaching experience. Lets see what that "dud" did while he was here; 1st time ever in the play-offs, took the #1 team in the state (AE) to the matt and almost beat them at AE, UC lost 8-0, first ALL STATE player ever, went from 30 players to over 60 this year. Has Had 3 different principals in 4 years, has given direction where none was. Ask ANYBODY at OR, or that played for him, or that coached against Union Co before he got here, compared to when he was here, about him and you will quickly find out what kind of coach he is....Soundslike a real "dud" doesn't it.

When was AE #1 in the state during his tenure? Fulton and Catholic have been the dominate teams in the Region over the past several years. Why is he quitting and giving up the job as a HEAD COACH. To go back to O.R. and Coach freshman? Point is this Jesse set the table for him and he just reaped the benefits. He came along at the right time. Jesse would have done the same or better.

Austin-East was ranked #1 in the state the first year Coach McBrayer was at Union Co. Catholic was still playing in Division II, so it just shows what you know about local high school football. He is a good coach and he was great with the kids, they respected him and played hard for him. He will be successful wherever he lands, especially with an administration that supports him. Those that don't know what the situation are should not speak. I wish the next head coach at Union Co the best of luck. It is diffucult to win with little or no support from the administration, no matter what "level" you coach at. Good luck Coach McBrayer and God Speed!

A.E. was ranked #1 going into the play offs when Union Co. played them? Again he took over Jesse's team and went to the play offs and hasn't been since. I do know that much! So did he start at Union Co. in 2004? Was this his 4 th. year? If so he has had a senior class go through and nothing to show for it!

I will agree that the administrative support isn't very good. But he had to know that going in. Money is hard to come by in a county that doesn't have many resources. Fund raising and community relations is an important part of being a head coach in a community like Union Co. Surely he didn't think he would have the financial resources he had as the FRESHMAN coach in O.R. But blaming the Administration for lack of success on the field is a stretch at best. A bad nonsupportive administration may make it difficult to have coaching supplements, equipment, etc...

By the way they put a lot of money into that fieldhouse they have. Wouldn't you say that was supportive of the football program. Union Co. is a tough place to coach. Resources are limited, the community can be skeptical of outsiders, politics is often an issue, and expectations are unrealistic.

I was wonder who the Union County All state player was and what year? I check the TFCA all state team for the past 3 years and there was no mention. I also the TSWA all state team and could only find the 2006 and the 2004 team. I am not trying to demean anyone by this question...I was just curious.
