Please keep David Wilson and others in your prayers. David is a freshman on the soccer team at Union University. He played forward for Chattanooga Christian and Chattanooga Futbol Club. His dorm was one of the ones demolished last night in the tornados and he is in ICU with injuries to his legs. Please pray for his recovery.

Chattanoogan Trapped In Dorm During Storm Is Recovering

posted February 6, 2008

Friends of a Chattanoogan who was trapped in a dorm after a tornado struck Union University in Jackson on Tuesday night said his prognosis continues to improve.

David Wilson, who graduated last year from Chattanooga Christian School, was taken by ambulance to a Jackson hospital after he was finally freed from debris.

Friends said it first appeared that his legs had been crushed, but it now appears it was compression marks and no surgery would be necessary.

Shawn Brower, CCS high school principal who drove Wilson family members to Jackson after learning of the devastation at the Jackson university, said he is alert with his eyes open.

He wrote on a pad, "I have never been so scared."

The injured student was taken to an intensive care unit and placed on a ventilator as his injuries were evaluated.

Mr. Brower said he was expressing concern about the condition of his roommate, who was trapped with him.

There were no deaths or critical injuries at the university from the storm despite heavy damage to two dorm buildings.

"Surgery Update: Thursday evening 8:45PM 2/7/08

After an hour and a half surgery on David's legs, the surgeon told the Wilson family that David's surgery went well. From what he saw once into the surgery, the surgeon believed they made the right decision and did comment that most of the muscle looked good. The doctors are cautiously optomistic. David will be sedated until morning. We ask that you specifically pray that there will be proper circulation and blood flow through his legs and that the muscle tissue will be completely restored. The Wilson family has had a moment to read each of your entries on this site, and are most grateful for your kind words and continued prayers for their son. Please pray that the entire family wil find rest this evening and may we each, Lord willing, wake to a good report. Peace in Christ!"

The very first thing David's parents wanted posted was that Christ has answered prayers. The Lord has heard people from literally around the world cry out to God for grace, mercy and healing.

Overall, Friday was a good day. The doctors saw his blood improve a bit and they have moved his status from critical to serious. This is a very positive step forward!

Friday was also a very active day for David as he was making adjustments to post-surgery requirements. The movement and activity left David very tired at the end of the day. However, Mark Wilson stated late last evening that today (Friday) had been a good day. In fact, by late evening, David had feeling at the bottom of his feet. That feeling was not present earlier in the day. While slow but sure, there is a direct correlation between the many prayers and the progressive steps David is taking.

Those of you who are reading this posting and have been praying, we expect that you are in this for the long haul. Whatever time period the Lord has on this recovery period, is the period we ask for your continued prayer and support.

Again, the outpouring of love for the Wilson family has been overwhelming and they are most grateful!
