I think Lexington(Rg. 6) may have their year this year. We played them last year(I played for Giles Co.), and they were young then and good. I thought we could put runs up with anyone, but they had better bats. I thought their weakness was pitching, although some would argue that, I'm just callin it as I saw. With all their talent back this year I will be following them.

As for the rest of the state, I really don't know much about any other state contenders.

Top AA contenders from Middle Tennessee would be Goodpasture, DCA & Lipscomb. Goodpasture lost alot of good players but has a good senior class again this yr. DCA has alot of pitching but lost a great catcher from last year. I dont know about their hitting. Lipscomb has a good team returning from last yr when they started 5 sophomores and 3 juniors among their top 11 players. They should be better this year. Marshall County is a dark horse cause Seth Lintz is a top pitcher and can beat anybody with him on the mound but no one knows who else they have with him.

I don't look for Marshall Co. to be in the Spring Fling this year. Yes, Lintz is one of the best in the state, but they lost everyone else last year. They didn't have a lot of O last year, so I don't expect any different this year. They should win when Lintz pitches, but his dad isn't going to let him throw too much, especially not every game...

east hickman is starting their first year and hasn't played any scrimages yet due to rain but still looking pretty good they should win a lot of games . they have about 7 players with varsity experince in AAA at hickman . they travel to harpeth tuesday for their first offical scrimage

I'm anxious to see about y'all... There's been a lot of trash talk in between EH & HC guys. If HC was a state comntender the last couple of years I could see it. But talent was way over matched then, and now the school is split. I do realize it's a step down in classes but...I guess we'll see.

Dyer County only lost 3 Seniors after a trip to the "Borro" losing to eventual State Champ Goodpasture in 10 innings (thenhaving to play an elimination game a couple hours later). I wouldn't count 'em out again this year. I guess all the other D.C. supporters are maintaining a "low profile" hoping to "fly under the radar". Pitching depth, experience of having been there & Athletic Programs (including this years football& basketball as well as last years baseball run) makes for an "expect to win" attitude. The games have to be played & there are variables that enter into the equation. However the Choctaws are well coached & disciplined team. As for PBandJ's comment about "poops & giggles" I don't think that any of the contenders or any teams taking the diamond that are playing with this in mind. I saw lots of capable teams in the "Borro" last spring. A break here ......... an error there & things as always could have been different all the way around. BUT ................. that's why they play the game & don't crown a State Champion based on Polls or opinions. Lookin' forward to yet another exciting Spring. One NEVER knows !

Lipscomb always has a good team especially in the hitting department, but do they have enough pitching this year?

Goodpasture always has a great program for some reason, i dont know how they do it, but this year their pitching depth could get them in trouble in tournament play. They have a solid number one, a decent number two, and after that there's not much to fall back on.

DCA is being very underestimated this year as they always are. Last year's team lost less than 10 games and i'm pretty sure they beat state champions goodpasture at least two times, maybe three i'm not too sure, but they only lost one senior from last year's team. Look for them to be a force this year.

Do not count out Greenbrier. They are in the same district as DCA and Goodpasture and lost only 1 senior from last year. They have depth pitching and a ton of offense. Watch out for Greenbrier, they are definately under the radar.

That's exactly the problem with that, they are in the same district as DCA and Goodpasture. If they get past both of those teams then they deserve to win state, but I don't see that happening.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
