Antioch vs Seigel

Siegel beat Antioch playing entirely zone last night. I recall them running a man defense in no more than 2 or 3 possessions.

Antioch's coaching just simply befuddled me. They seemed to be content with walking the ball up the floor and then had no clue how to attack Siegel's 2-3 zone. They simply stood around. On the few occasions they pushed the ball (not allowing Siegel's zone to get set), they were able to get good shots. Maybe they are just not a running team.

I have also been reading all about their 'suffocating 2-3 zone'. Well, at some point you have to realize you are behind and get out of your zone and go man. They never did. They allowed Siegel to pass the ball around and run out the clock. Siegel did an outstanding job at the end of the game.

As one of Coach Harris' biggest critics during the Oden-Ramsey years, I now have to believe he has to be considered the top coach in 7AAA. How can anyone argue? He has 3 state tourney appearances in 4 years. If I am not mistaken, the only other coach to reach the state in that time is Randy King (with 1 appearance). Doing it with Oden, Ramsey, Roper and Jones is one thing, but doing it with no superstars (I agree that Cutter is overrated) is strictly another.

Antioch was a running team for the last couple of years. If they would have pressed and trapped and made this game up-tempo they win easy. I have seen this team several times this year and I really have not seen any better talent on one basketball team since the Ernest Shelton years at White Station. Nollner is just so predictable, he has some success because he has been at whites creek with the best talent year in and out. Antioch had a cake walk all year since the area was way down this year. Nollner left alot of talent on the bench, playing his usual 7 players just like he did with the Cobras. He could have easily played 10 players and wore any team down. Antioch should of been State Champs this year. congrats to Seigal, hope they win it all.

Sounds like a member of the Crowder family.

Crowder family or not, I tend to agree with that assessment.

In Nollner's defense though, if that was a Crowder team, they would have gotten beat by a team like Brentwood in the regionals on that roller coaster ride that was his tenure at Antioch.

Just goes to show that all coaches have their strengths and weaknesses.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
