Who wins this game and what does the winner gain?

The winner gains everything! Assuming West wins their district, that is not a place anyone wants to go to for the first game in the Region tournament. Not saying that Oak Ridge is any push over, after all, they gave Maryville a tough game they probably should have won. But playing West at West will be tough for either team.

I believe you will see the best out of both teams.

I guess I am going to go with the upset here...Well, it might not really be an upset. I have seen both teams play twice this year, and I think Maryville has the edge.

Maryville's play is passionate and purposeful, and I don't recall that they have ever been this far before. On the other hand, this game probably means less to Farragut, as they have consitently played in this game year after year. Farragut is looking at the big picture (state finals), while Maryille most likely has smaller goals (district champions).

More importantly, Maryville is playing a pretty attractive brand of soccer right now. When they are on their game, they have outstanding combination play in the middle of the pitch, and they are willing to possess until an opposing defender gets anxious or space opens up. Furthermore, Maryville will likely have the best athlete on the field Friday night--Ridge Carter. He has outstanding pace, and he poses all sorts of problems for opposing teams because he is not just being played in the middle. Maryville is moving him around like he is a pawn, hoping to expose and overwhelm the other side's weaknesses.

Conversely, Farragut does not have a game changer. Jake Holt is an outstanding player with a very high soccer I.Q., but he lacks the speed and tenacity to be brilliant. The player that might hurt Maryville the most is Travis Bolton, who does have good pace and possesses decent one vs. one abilities.

However, Farragut is an extremely talented team, and they have a great winning tradition. The name on their jersey is worth at least one goal, maybe two. In the end, I still think this is Maryville's night. Best to both teams!

Maryville 2, Farragut 1
