I was told 44-41 was the final tonight. Austin Bass knocked in the game-winning field goal with :03 seconds remaining.

Crazy game in which Centennial never punted. They turned it over 3 times in the first quarter, 4 in the half, and trailed 21-0 at one point. Got it back to 27-21 at half and took a 28-27 lead to start the 3rd. After it became 34-27, DC scored but missed the PAT, 34-33. With CHS up 41-33, DC scored and made the 2 pointer to tie at 41 with around 3 minutes to go. Started the final drive around their own 40, punched it inside the 10 and called a timeout with 3 seconds left. Bass was true on the final play of the game. Jacson didn't play due to injury but Scales and Kemp ran wild. The DC offense also deserves a ton of credit. Don't know any stats but both teams had to have 500 yds total offense.

Buzz up! A 28-yard field goal by senior Austin Bass as the final seconds of the game ticked off the clock, helped edge the Centennial Cougars past 6-5A opponent Dickson County Friday night, 44-41.

Centennial improves to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the region while Dickson County slips to 0-6, and 0-3.

It was the home team, Dickson County that jumped out on the scoreboard first, taking a 21-0 lead in the first quarter.

Dickson County made the most of two fumble recoveries and an interception to put points on the board.

But huge yardage on the ground by Centennial quarterback Chaz Scales (168 yards rushing) and running back Tony Kemp (241 yards rushing) kept their team in the game.

???Four turnovers in the first half and poor tackling, that had a lot to do with tonight, but give Dickson County credit. They did some great things making the most of their opportunities,??? Centennial head coach Mark Matykiewicz said.

???But this is one of those wins that we are fortunate enough to get and hopefully we learn from it.

???Our starting tailback was questionable all week (Ray-Mond Jackson), so we gave the ball to Tony and he??™s really talented.???

In the first half, it was Dickson County that came up with some special plays with Stetson Pendegrass scoring first for Dickson on a 48-yard pass from Trae Weiss, and then Cody McCallister scored on an 89-yard run to put the home team up 14-0.

Mickey Hannah rounded off the scoring for Dickson County in the first, with a 7-yard run and Luke Moore kicked his third extra point to put Dickson up, 21-0.

It was the first time all season that Dickson County has had the lead in a game and it looked like they held the momentum.

But between Scales and Kemp, Centennial battled back in the second half with both scoring touchdowns to help their team take the lead late in the third, 34-27.

In the fourth, a 7-yard scoring run by Kemp extended that lead to 41-33.

Dickson County wasn??™t down for the count though, pushing their way back down the field and after 11 plays, Hannah tied the game (41-41) with a 2-yard run up the middle and 3:08 left in the game.

Centennial made the most of their running game to burn down the clock and put Bass in position to kick the winning field goal.

    • It is what it is. Sorry DFL.
    • One of the biggest loosing teams in Mid-State are the Macon County Tigerettes. I have noticed that the roster is smaller than in the years past. All the senior's have quit. We have a great group of Jr High players coming up. I sure hope they don't loose them, like they have lost so many others this year. With this young group of girls coming up, a weaker district, they should have no problem going to State.
    • It was updated this season, because I did it.  Linder is the school's all-time leading rusher at 5,156 yards with 2,436 of those coming in 2014.
    • Oh, I’m sure you did. Maybe you heard just a rumor, but considering we have a football practice field and a soccer field that’s frequently used for lacrosse games and practices, I highly doubt it. Let me change that. I know for a fact that didn’t happen.   Glad you finally stopped attacking a bunch of high school students, but still obsessed with the coaching staff for some unknown reason, even though you could name more than three (at most) coaches without looking it up. But now come up with something else.
    • You really mean the Price twin boys and Lyin Larry.
