Ryan scored a TD and 2-pt conversion to go up 25-24 with 2 mins to go. EHS ran back the kickoff almost all the way and then scored to take the lead. They scored again a few seconds later on an interception.

"Barely" means being behind with 2 mins to go while standing in your end zone waiting for a kickoff.

Also Orleans injured his knee and may be lost for the season.

wow...

Alrite then, here's the updated play-off breakdown for the best class in the state of Tennessee

EHS clinched

BA clinched

MS clinched

MBA needs to win 1 of 2(Ryan, MS) or have Webb lose 1 of 2(BGA, Baylor)

BGA needs to win 1 of 2(Webb, EHS) or have Webb lose 1 of 2(BGA, Baylor)

Webb needs to win 2 of 2(BGA, Baylor)

---W---

MUS needs to win 1 of 2(ECS, SB) or have CBHS lose 1 of 1(SB)

BCS needs to win 1 of 1(ECS) or have CBHS lose 1 of 1(SB)

ECS needs to win 2 of 2(MUS, BCS)

CBHS needs to win 1 of 1(SB) and have ECS lose 1 of 2(MUS, BCS)

I have another question: Does the TSSAA have a policy on who plays whom if both #1 seeds win?

For example, if EHS (#1 in E/M) and MUS (#1 in W) both win in round 1 and MBA (#2 in E/M) and BA (#3 in E/M) are the remaining opponents, who plays #2 and who plays #3?

In keeping with your scenario, then EHS would play BA, and MUS would play MBA, with the top-seeded teams having home field advantage. There are still games to be played, though, and anything can happen.

Thanks. It was only a hypothetical scenario. By your explanation, #1 West plays #2 E/M while #1 E/M plays #3 E/M. Why is that?

In other words, what is the rule that determines who plays whom?

There are several other hypotheticals: If the #2 and #3 seeds in the West advance with both #1's, does the West #1 play the #3? If both #2's advance along with both #1's, does East play West?

Or is there another factor involved?

as far as my understanding goes, the brackets are just the way they are and wont change anytime soon. im relatively positive the way they were set up last year is how theyll be this year.

its similar to division II baseball in which one bracket always has the #1 from the west (most everyone knows who that winds up being) and the #1 from the east.

We have already established the 1st round brackets (see below) on this thread. The question is what happens after the 1st round.

The brackets are posted in the Football regulations of the TSSAA handbook on page 3 I do believe. For Class AA it was:

#1 East/Middle vs. #5 East/Middle

#2 West vs. #3 East/Middle

#2 East/Middle vs. #3 West

#1 West vs. #4 East/Middle

The higher seed will host in the first 2 rounds.

In view of that info, I am going to go out on a limb and make predictions for the rest of the way. Please note: I could pick any of the teams after Round 1. These are guesses to stimulate discussion and will be updated weekly until the end of the season.

BGA @ MUS

Round 2

Lots of great football left to watch this season -- MUS is a force. Can't wait to see them clash with mid-state teams.

3yards.... why is 13 points "barely" a win? Is it because that's the same spread Ensworth beat MBA?

I watched the game, and "3yards" is right to say "barely." That's not to imply luckily or unjustly: Ensworth did what they had to do to get a win, under less than desirable circumstances. Truly a great game to watch, and while i wouldn't pull for Ryan with the brakes out on the team bus as the went down Monteagle Mountain, you had to feel for them. They've had a rough season, and came awfully close.

A game like that one is why I prefer HS football to anything the college or pros have to offer.
