Dist 4-A! How do you see it ending up?

With the season just around the corner, how does everyone think the district will finish this season?

Here's my take

1. Oliver Springs (I think this will be one of their better seasons, look for KC to lead like never before give Coach C. her 4th 4-A Championship and KC MVP) (25 plus wins)

2. Wartburg - (It's gonna be close between them and Coalfield for 2nd, could even see Oneida get in the mix.) Replacing what was lost last season won't be easy, but with Armes, Freels, and Fountain they should be solid! Pair that with zero coaching controversy and this team should make it to the region for the 3rd straight season. (18-20 wins)

3. Coalfield - (It will all come down to chemistry, If Coach Hines can get her girls to produce they could be the darlings of 4-A by season's end) (20 wins)

4. Oneida - Young, Talented, and Hungry. Oneida was on top of 4-A prior to O.S. entering. Since then they haven't won a Dist or Region Title. Look for Oneida to be hungry to beat O.S. before KC graduates. I don't think they will this season but you can't ever count them out come tourney time. (15-18 Wins)

5. Oakdale - They will finish above Sunbright because they have a coach! This team is replacing possibly the most graduating talent next to Wartburg and they will need to bring some young uns up quickly. Give Snow some time and they will be there, but it may be 2009 before they challenge for one of the top 3 spots. (12 Wins)

6. Sunbright - I wouldn't keep a daughter of mine at Sunbright. 1 week before season and they are still without a coach. Bad situation! I feel like the team has some talent but with all this turmoil it will be hard for them to pan out. However, I am pulling for these kids due to all they have gone through. (8 Wins)

I agree for the most part.

OZ has to be #1 until they get beat

Coalfield and Wartburg should be 2 and 3rd just have to wait and see how these teams play as a team

Oneida might be the big surpise this year

Sunbright needs a coach still I think

Oakdale very young but Coach Snow might have an upset on someone this year if they over look them.

Best of luck to all the teams this year!

I seen Coalfield and Wartburg at TTU this summer Wartburg did not look good at all down there the games I watched but I was told they look good at the Shelbyville camp.

Coalfield did not look good at TTU but I talked to one of the parents and they said they had alot of injuries down there the only senior did not even get to play because she got hurt first game there. But they said they look good at the Maryville camp.

Oneida should be quick and young but their Coach should have them playing well toward the end of the year might be their still 1 year away

Oakdale Coach Snow will have his hands full this year with a very young team.

Sunbright hate to here they lost their coach but I was told they did play Coalfield at the Maryville camp but the game was not even close. Hope they get a coach that can work with this team.

Once again this district is loaded with tons of talent. It is exciting this time of the year to see everyones predictions. Some good observations have been made concerning the teams.

OZ as always has the all important weapon in Kayla and with her supporting troops it is likely they will finish on top. However, they fell short at the end of the season last year and this means they will have to be on their toes early. Coalfield basically returns ALL their starters as they lost a lone senior player who did contribute but didn't carry the team. I look for them to be in a hunt to sting top opponents.

Wartburg lost a TON of talent in their graduating seniors. Seniors who were a HUGE part of their success. I understand they have returning players that saw a lot of playing time and this coupled with any that step up to the challenge and they are looking to defend their current title and success from last season.

Oneida returns alot of players having 10 veterans. And with the addition of 10 freshman that will be batteling for time on the hardwood I am sure Coach West will have them ready. It may take a few games under their belts to jell but I look for them to surprise A LOT of teams. Returning six players that saw significant playing time and sharing starting duties will prove to be an asset for West.

Not being very familiar with the player potential from Sunbright and Oakdale I can't really comment on what I think. The coaching situation at Sunbright could definitely be costly at this time. Oakdale has a coach that has proven himself time and time again. I agree with previous post that he will have his girls ready and we CAN NOT count them out by no means.

To all teams in Distric 4-A . . . . GOOD LUCK ! /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

Our team played at Maryville and the game between Coalfield and Sunbright was 6 to 10 point game, Sunbright led a little at the first. Sunbright looked good at the CAK camp against Gibbs, beat Midway by 20 or more. This Sunbright team is very young.

    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
    • What is the hold up here? I have not heard anything in weeks. Are they waiting for the right person or is something else going on?
    • Per usual, we'll be hard to beat in the regular season, I'm sure. It's the post season that I'm more worried about, specifically the coaches. Maybe they'll be able to make some adjustments that will keep the momentum in our favor. How's Grays recovery coming along?
    • Something don’t add up here a college coach is not going to turn away a good player they need just because they didn’t get along with their high school coach
    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
