loveVB, you are absolutely correct. After Cookeville won over Columbia and Siegel over Lincoln County, Cookeville won over Siegel 3-0 in a very decisive match Sara Phillips was the player from Lincoln county that got all tourney and deserved it as did Chyanne Kyle from Columbia.

When driving to Lincoln County this evening, I wondered what to expect for Lincoln County had not shown up on the radar but had won District 8 over Columbia. This school very quietly ran thru their schedule and instead of participating in a lot of Tournaments in Tennessee, had dropped in to Alabama and played the likes of Grissom, Bob Jones and the heavy weights in Alabama around the Huntsville area. Lincoln County is close to the Alabama Line and the school is in Fayetteville. Lincoln has one club player, I believe in Alabama, and another player that was a club one time or another. Lincoln is coached by Coach Carmichael and is a very well coached team. Sara Phillips, who won all tournament for Lincoln is a very good player and one you would not expect to see at Lincoln. The school has numerous other good players and 4 seniors this year. Coach Carmichael is very proud of his team and he ran a good Tournament. It is likely he will try to make his way up thru the Tennessee tournament curcuit this coming year. Coach Carmichael of Lincoln and Kyle of Columbia are two of the main pormoters of VB in district 8 and we look forward to the district having a tournament sometime in the future.

While Siegel did not win this Regional match their play was certainly very good and Cookeville displayed some focus that I have not seen from the school in the past 4 years. Cookeville has had some good teams and some very good players but in recent years have not finished very well. This year is not the case. Without putting a target on her back, Kaycee Green is the difference. but to believe there is no one else there is very naive because Fitzgerald and Stringhorn certainly know there roles and fill in the sports when needed. With every great hitter is a Setter and Samantha Mayberry is that person. it is likely they have a better chance at state this year than ever although its sure Coach Brooks is not sure yet if this is the best team she has had since her return to Cookeville. It is hoped that if Coach Brooks and her team gets to the State, you might take some time to watch this team and especially this player. Kaycee can be a power player or one with a lot of finesse according to the circumstances. Yes, she was on the heralded 17's national championship team this past summer with Impact. As some have written and after seeing seeing her play a number of times this year, she is one of the best players in Tennessee. An all around player who can rip you to schreds with her placements and serving, she is hard to defend. Many in 7AAA have wondered if she would ever graduate and thought Coach Brooks was holding her back for another year.

Which brings up another thought. Cookeville and the other 7AAA schools that are leaving after this year, have always gotten the district ready to play post season. That is the nature of the District. Its a no holds barred District of Schools that every night or every match will try to beat you and is great competition to get one ready for a Tournament. this is the last time in the District for Cookeville, Warren County, White County and Lebanon high School. These are area's of the State that are great competitors. They are friends. Volleyball has been a common bond on this site for that friendship and well as seeing those faces at the matches and the games. Hopefully these schools can be scheduled in the future. But don't think the Schools coming in are any easier. So Cookeville takes on Cleveland and Siegel takes on Red Bank Thursday in the Sub State. These will be fine matches.

Flash: Word is that the Cookeville volleyball team had to get bird-flu shots due to problems with all that seagull they have been digesting lately. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
