Ooltewah Owls Region 2-5A Champs Outright

I wonder why this team never gets any respect in the PRESS. Matthew Polk may even have better stats than Bryan Marshall did his Sr year at Ooltewah. Against Oak Ridge and Soddy he had over or close to 500 yards rushing. The defensive stats are just freaky. Interceptions-passes broken up- rushing yards allowed- sacks-QB hurries. I would like someone( Thorough or Imaowl) post some end of the year stats on here. Owls focus and Don't let up in the playoffs! Congratulations to Coach Monroe, Coach Green, Coach Gatewood and the rest!

I'll post some stats up on the 5A Mr. Football thread and on this one a little later (since only the coaches and myself are the only ones with the entire season stats), but Polk has had over 550 yards over the last 2 weeks alone. The Owls have had a number of players step up the last few weeks, but the passing game is still a concern (and the coaches realize that). Brady has done a good job the last few weeks of not forcing anything and has done well leading the offense and managing the game. If that comes together, lookout, that will open up Matthew and the offense as a whole.

It's always been that way with the Chattanooga media who has a love affair with Boyd-Buc (who play kids that couldn't cut it at Ooltewah....nothing wrong with that), and McCallie and Baylor. We have always been treated like we don't exist. I'll have to hand it to Stump Martin who is always promoting Ooltewah athletics.

Hey, What about the WaCoJaCo 100% Correct 5A Football Poll. I have had Ooltewah ranked #2 at the first of the season. I would look for them to go to #1 in the final and only 100% correct poll. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Hunter Middle won the middle school championship this year and Ooltewah middle's only loss came to Hunter. I heard Hunter didn't give up a touchdown all season but I could be wrong. Owls will be strong for years to come. Freshman running back is a stud.

My son plays for OMS. You are right, Hunter did not give up a touchdown this year. Look at all that talent coming up for the high school from both of these great programs. The new school won't hurt too much next year. OMS will rebound with players just waiting to get the chance.

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
    • No movement on Chester? South Gibson? Gibson County?
    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
