We all know who Maryville's main man is this year. Lee Humphrey (for those of you who were born in a barn). With the gradution of Scruggs, Mary, and some key post players, who does MHS have left? Anyone special coming up from JV? How far do you think they can make it, or should I say, how far can Lee carry the team on his shoulders? Congratulations Lee. Thanks for any responses.

I can happily say that I was not born in a barn, and that yes Lee is gonna lead Maryville to a great season. I'm not sure what you mean about us graduating key post players, because our 2 starting posts from last season are both returning, Stout and Houser, along with Carl Stewart coming in as soon as football is over, which of course will be as soon as the state championship game is through. As far as JV players stepping up, the first guy that comes to mind is Andy Tipton. He is a 6'5 junior and can dunk it any way you want him to. Maryville will most likely have another successful season and will hopefully make it past regional semi-finals.

Maryville's only real weakness will be at the two or point guard positions, depending on where Lee isn't. There are several players that will step up, hopefully, to fill Scrugg's shoes. Eppolito, Burchfield, and Fowler should all take the load. We return two starting posts and Andy Tipton is a threat from anywhere on the court, he'll pull a three in your eye or he'll take you to the basket, at 6'5" he's a beast!

Is Maryville playing any teams from other states or any tough teams during X-mas Tourneys or Thanksgiving? I really think that would help them, because teams like White Station play in some major tournaments like the arbys classic, which they won. You must remember East has Marcus Hammond, Hamilton has Courtney Bohannon, BTW has Andre Allen, Bartlett has Ben Frederick, Whitehaven has Josh Peppers...so every game they play is against a team that has a great player. Maryville should really play a tough schedule out side of the region to become familiar with different types of basketball and different styles. Do you guys agree?

Yeah, Bartlett is going to a classic that will have Travis Outlaw or Al Jefferson in it...i'm not sure..both or at least Jefferson, who Coach Smith said was Elton Brand. And then they are going to a BIG tourney in Orlando called the Island of the Sun or something like that...Opperman, correct me if I'm wrong.

I totally agree. Maryville just hasn't had many opportunities. They usually play in the Seymour Tournament at Thanksgiving, and last year they played over at Maryville College against some pretty good teams. But of course great competition always makes a team that much better.

    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
