I want to set up a thread where we can discuss girl's wrestling.

 

Who has girls in their room who are training for the State Meet in February?

 

I know that Science Hill and Soddy Daisy are working to build the sport; who else is getting on board?

 

Here is the Science Hill Schedule, which includes the dates of all known girl's events.

THE DATE FOR THE HALLS FRESHMEN/JV/GIRLS TOURNAMENT IS 1-19-09. ARE THE VARSITY TOURNAMENTS THAT YOU HAVE LISTED GOING TO HAVE A GIRLS DIVISION OR ARE THEY WRESTLING THE BOYS? I THINK EVERY TOURNAMENT (JV AND VARSITY) SHOULD SET-UP A GIRLS DIVISION.

 

KEEPING TO BOYS AND GIRLS SEPARATE IS THE BEST THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO OUR SPORT IN A LONG TIME.

Do the girls have to be certified and weight tested? Also do they have to have hair covers or are they allowed to compete with the same ruls as womens wrestling--have hair braided or how ever and weigh in in their singlets?

I have 20 signed up but time shall see how they last.

Science Hill has nine but will be adding more as we go.

 

Chuckey-Doak had four I think.

Is this a waste of time and resources? I have seen no girls in West TN in the past two tournaments. How will this effect the state tournament other than creating a circus and distracting from the real tournament?

Strickly guessing.....but Soddy has about 15-20.

If your team had made the state duals last year, than you would have seen the girls wrestle. It was neither a waste of time or distraction. It drew an incredible crowd that came away respecting the hard work the ladies put into it. Perhaps some schools around our state need to come out of the stone age.

Since I don't have extra coaches, I am starting the girls team on Jan 5. We will see what happens then.

It should be pointed out that any female who has competed against males during the 2088-09 season is not eligible for the womens state tourney. In addition there will not a a qualifying tournament prior to womens state.
