i was at that game.

tremendous defensive effort on both sides had a lot to do with the offensive output.

all in all, it was a well played game.

that was also an excellent officiating crew.

i would agree they didnt have their best game, but it is still a good crew.

the important thing is that

the game outcome was decided by the players & coaches, as it should be.

I don't know what game you were watching regarding the officiating. It was terrible in both games. The gray headed officials weren't too bad, but the dark-headed one was absolutely terrible! 44 was right. I don't know that he aided either team a lot (probably Cascade more so than Community) but he was one of the worse I've seen.

it has always been my opinion that officials are just part of the floor,

and people who worry about officiating are just wasting their energy.

i have attended a lot of basketball games,

more than 700 games just counting state tournaments.

no telling how many total games i have seen.

more often than not, i have no emotional investment in either team.

what i have found is that in games where i have no personal stake,

the officiating almost never seems to be a factor;

except for games where teams refuse to adjust to the game being called,

or let their concern with officiating interfere with their focus on the opponent.

yet, somehow, in games where i do have a personal involvement,

it invariably feels like my team is getting the short end of the stick.

on that crew, the two older guys are among the best HS officials in the midstate.

the younger guy is less experienced, but he is hardly terrible.

ya'll got a good crew that night, and they were a non-factor in the outcome.

you really cant ask for more than that.

At the risk of turning this into a ref discussion: Type 1: Your right that the refs don't often decide the games unless the kids do not adjust, and that is on the kids. Type 2: It is a shame when the refs don't let the kids play, blowing lots of stupid whistles, but as long as it is the same at both ends it does not affect the outcome. Type 3: Refs let to many real fouls go, even when this is the same at both ends, this works in favor of teams that can't defend well without fouling and usually leads to injuries. TSSAA should be an guard on this point. Type 4: The pet ref with an interest intent on affecting the outcome of a game. They are out there and need to be eliminated. The tough part is that when these refs are calling games they are disinterested in, they look like good refs.

On to the boys... Cascade is a tough team and the Community game was awsome entertainment. I still think Community puts the most talented team on the court. Cascade and Eagleville have a few players that can take control on any given night, and both play a disruptive scheme on both ends, which makes thier weaknesses less of a factor. I wish our boys played as intense on every play all night the way they do.
