Not a lot went right for Hixson during their game against Howard but a couple of parents made it worse. From the start it was clear these two had issues with a couple of the players and the coaches. One of the guards had 8 threes a couple of games ago but tonight wasn't his night, another long range shooter had his problems on both ends but they were doing their best against the district's top team. Hixson's shot selection wasn't really that great but yelling "why don't you pass the ball!", "you can shoot but you can't play defense!", etc, was pretty pathetic. When Howard would score on the break the yelling would be "that's what happens when you pass the ball!." The two guards getting the bulk of the abuse had to have heard it, everyone in the area of the bleachers kept turning and looking each time these two would embarrass themselves. Finally a student turned around and yelled at them "you're not helping, just let them play", something close to that and the mother yelled an obscenity back at him, from about 8 rows behind him. That was an awful display, the Hixson players were doing their best against a superior opponent. It's a good thing the parents of the players either chose to ignore it or were sitting elsewhere or there could have been major problems in the stands.

Sounds typical of the leadership and character that the new coach has displayed all year. I know as an official that I have had to get on to him several times for his profanity to his players, to other referees and to some fans. I still don't understand how a coach can get thrown out of a game that Hixson won by almost twenty and especially right before the district tournament. But this is the person that was hired that the principal was quoted as saying: Hixson High School Principal Christine Couch said. "Most importantly, however, Coach Disbrow is a proven leader and his commitment to the success of his athletes is extraordinary." What a commitment to his players. Get thrown out of a game, suspended two games and cause the school to have to pay $250.00 when there is no money to get out of a $20 million dollar deficit anyway. What a proven leader. Hixson is really getting sad. Parents should not treat kids this way at all, but it is always the kids who suffer no matter if they are shooting all of the time, passing all of the time or not even playing. They will always remember the impression that was left on their lives, either from the coach or the parents.

Christine Couch's approval is like being given the Kiss of Death...she has bubble bath bubbles for brains.

    • Worst thing SC could do is get rid of Dyer. I agree with everything said above.
    • Jada Hart, Jasmine Bailey and Kaitlyn Patterson the first two being PG's are all good guards and can handle ball pressure and are good players. Raven Wells will be a good post. There were games this summer where any one of the one's I mentioned were in double figures. Gibson County will control TO's much better this year and they will press more and get back to playing faster. AA is down across the board. I have been all over watching ball. Alcoa jumped to AAA and Jackson County moved down. to A. No telling who wins it this year. I agree Union City, Westview and Gibson County will be a dogfight and must see basketball. Poster insuated that Gibson County has a mental block against Westview. Well give me Maddie Gray and we line up last year and they wouldn't have won a game. Let's see how Westview does this year. Their starting five last year had three transfers in it. Rogers from Obion, Trevathon from Greenfield and Gray from South Fulton. Looks like they swung and missed with the girl from Florida this year so let's see how they do playing with kids from Westview. Gibson County has a really good 7th grade class this year.I have done learned you play with what you got and work them hard and develop them and see what happens. Just keep battling and see what happens. I like our team this year. Very athletic. Every year is the same with injuries and can be catistrophic to any. I watched GC all summer long. South Side and GC was very evenly matched and was a classic war.We had some quality wins this summer. Beat Huntingdon, Henry County, Bowling Green, Liitle Rock Central as well as a couple other quality Kentucky Teams. Westview's talent pool may not be what it has been without transfers the next few. And as far as Wilkins riding off into the sunset, where do y'all seem to think he will leave?? Wilkins is a healthy dude and he loves basketball and loves coaching. I wouldn't be suprised if he coaches a few more years. He loves the game and loves every minute of coaching.
    • I think Gibson County is a top five team this next season but I do agree they will drop off a lot after this year.  Westview lost a ton and will be down this season and hopes of returning to glass house again is slim.  The run they have had is super impressive!
    • My take on GC for this year: Based on what I saw last year and heard this summer, I’m not sure GC could surprise me next year with any outcome. Wilkins is a great coach - they could win the district and region and go to Murfreesboro. They could also come in third in the district and not get out of region. The two returning starters are very talented but Guru is right that they didn’t always play hard last year. The other three starters are good enough in their roles for GC to be successful. There is no depth. Foul trouble could be a problem - Wilkins may avoid it by playing a lot of zone. An injury would be catastrophic. I hope they have a big year and Wilkins rides off into the sunset in Murfreesboro because, without some significant transfers, there are some tough years coming in the next few.
    • Daniel Boone coming down to 3A makes this much tougher. They added a couple transfers to the Flores girl. Cocke Co, Northview, Greeneville, and Daniel Boone - only two headed to Murfreesboro.
