That was a huge win, as good as any ever in the girls' program. The 17-2 advantage in the first quarter was of course huge but anybody who's ever watched Grundy knew they wouldn't give up. 25-14 at the half. Sequatchie got it to 28-14 before Grundy went on a 10-0 run. As one of the articles mentions, K Barker getting a rebound and going the length of the floor, hitting the shot and the free throw, was huge. She also scored after getting a steal early in the fourth after Grundy opened the quarter with a three-pointer to cut it to 6 again. Free throw attempts were just 14-9 in favor of Sequatchie after three quarters, Sequatchie attempted 13 in the last 3:00 or so which widened the margin between attempts (28-11). Sequatchie hosts Meigs, Grundy hosts Brainerd.

A very small correction in the TFP story, they lost 1 player since the season began, Rachel Lockhart, one of the best players in the area, not 4 as listed.

All-tournament team: Sequatchie County — Katherine Barker, Melanie Barker, Jessica McDonough, Brittany Cooley; Grundy County — Bridgett Smartt, Chelsey Wiseman, Haley Coffelt, Ashley Sanders; Chattanooga Christian — Chelsea Simmons, Presley Watson; Bledsoe County — Shelby Hale, Cassie Yeargan.

All four all-tournament players for Seq did really well, seniors K Barker (21) and Cooley (13), sophomore McDonough (2, with 7 including the late game-tying basket against Bledsoe) and freshman M Barker (9 with 8 in the first quarter). Freshman starter LeighAnn McAfee rebounded well against some tough posts, scored 4 and freshman Haley Greene came off the bench in the first and nailed a pair of FT. Outstanding team win.

    • Mancoverage sez: This thread has been an absolute delight! Absolutely marvelous! Such eloquent and rosy prose, contained here in, is so seldom found amongst the more jocular subset of our species. The brilliant author behind such poetic use of an obviously deep and broad vernacular, reminds me of the other-worldly talents of Oscar Wilde. I humbly thank you, kind sir, for so generously sharing your elegantly loquacious gifts. The Goat sez: You better watch your back, Lord Byron, I’m sure poetry isn’t the only talent and passion that the author shares with Oscar Wilde.
