Night pictures

Recommended Posts

So it sounds like I need to take the extender off at night and I need to manually get the camera's iso to 3200 and work down from there. I think I have only had the iso to 1600 but I can manually raise it. Yes, I have the expensive lens and they were out of the lens with the built in stabilizer and I didn't want to wait-wish I would have now. I'll let you know how it works out. The Germantown Baseball pictures on Coach T's site are taken by me and you can see the difference in the day and night pictures. Thanks for all the advice!!

The extender is the prob. ISO above 1600 will not work. 1200 if the lighting is pretty good. The lower you can get it the better results you'll have. I usually snap a few pictures and preview them under the conditions, till I get the settings right for that particular venue.

I have been shooting girl soccer for about 10+ years now. Yes, the biggest difference between getting good shots at night is the 2.8 lens (don't confuse that with a 1.5x converter.....like spark plugs and tires for a car).

Shoot like crazy during the day, you will likely miss it at night.

On some rare occasions you may get lucky if the field you are visiting has ample ambient light, but this is generally a 1:50 shot.

Try shooting at the ends of the field, rather than the sides. Panning with your camera will add to the blur. If you are in the far end of the field, put some duct tape over your mouth so you remain quiet. Once you encourage a team, or discourage the ref, you are back on the sidelines....trust me...I am a slow learner.

Lastly, you have heard about all these $$$ lenses. Well, you can actually rent any of these in order to sure up your purchase.

See you on the pitch.

Any suggestions on how to get good pictures at night when you can't use your flash? Especially pictures with movement such as batting and/or pitching. I have the Canon 40D camera. My pictures do not look good under the lights and no flash....

thanks

I have foudn that no flash pictures look best at night, atleast from my camera they do. usually when I do have flash on the picture is way to bright and you can see pixaltion.

    • I don't know what's going on in the town of McMinnville, but I've read this and it's disturbing.  I'm a "player" person, and I want what's best for the player. If a player gets cut off the team because she said the "F word" then good grief. I mean, come on guys. I wish there was a way for the player to transfer to a different program and just play ball. There are a lot of athletes that are stuck because they're in crappy situations regarding their team/coach. This is player just happens to be one them.
    • Won't happen. College coaches will back the coach every time and it cost this young lady her senior season. Looks like the player may be right on this one. School let her  go after one season. This stuff happens more than you think.
    • “No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team.” For language? I’m not seeing that as a dealbreaker.
    • Why did the coach get rehired after she was let go as an assistant by the former Warren County coach and the current AD?? Is that accurate?? I am very familiar with situations like this. Suprised lawsuits haven't happend before. If the coach unfairly let the player go, I think she has a shot because it cost her a scholarship. No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team. Not going to happen. There are bad hires like this a bunch and kids are treated unfairly by coaches that can't coach a lick and have super long ropes somehow. Amazing how some of these coaches get hired and keep their job.
    • I am going to assume you are not a lawyer, and most reasonable lawyers would not say the lawsuit has a zero percent chance in court. I agree with you that a coach has the ability to dismiss anyone from a team. However, Ms. Winfree was never presented with the opportunity to present her witnesses and have them tell the coaches and administrators what they heard. A lawyer could better explain the lawsuit and the grounds to you. Before you start making wild assumptions about the lawsuit, would it be too much to ask that you do a little legal research first? The lawsuit is dealing with due process, loss of property, and defamation.   You can read the lawsuit here: https://bdnewsletter.files.wordpress.com/2024/04/doc-1-complaint-filed-4-18-2024.pdf
