3) The curve ball is the most overused pitch at the high school and below levels and the changeup is the most underused. The best off speed pitch - especially for a hard fastball pitcher - is the changeup. This is especially true if the kids learn to throw a circle change. The arm movements are the same as the fast ball which creates more deception to hitters plus you get movement with a well developed circle change. The changeup does not hurt the arm.

what about the fastball on a 0-2 count and the kid doesnt even come close to catching up to it so throw a change up or a curve ball and then he strokes it to the outfield sometimes there is too much coaching if the pitcher is overpowering the batter make him hit his pitch til he proves he can hit it

but u have to understand there is a reason why its underused...its just a hard pitch to throw .....i agree with u but put everything into context not only is it harder to throw its not needed to get a high school hitter out ...if u dont throw the changeup right not only is it not a good pitch its a terrible pitch simply bc hitters bat speed in high school is not that great in the first place

At the same time all off speed pitches are overused against the bottom of the order and curve balls in the dirt on strike three make for way too many k23's.
