The Motlow State Lady Bucks are the 2009 TJCAA State Champions in softball. The Lady Bucks defeated Chattanooga State 4-3. Kasie Meeks, former Coffee Co ace, was the winning pitcher and the tournament MVP. She pitched every inning of the five games Motlow played in the tourney. I think its the first time in 14 years, someone other than Chattanooga State, has won the tournament. Coach Gary Barfield will be taking his team to Utah, for the NJCAA national tournament, beginning around May 14th. I realize this is a high school softball website, but I think this news would be of interest to most people who use this website. Congratulations to Coach Barfield and the young ladies for a very memorable experience and good luck in Utah.

Congrats to Motlow for finally ending the Chattanooga domination. Motlow has a fine team and I hope they do well at the nationals. My dd played for Vol state. We lost to them in the winners bracket finals. Their coach was smart enough to ride his ace for the entire tournament and it paid off for him. Unfortunately our coach did not have the same mentality. KK was so excited to pitch against Motlow in Wednesday night and I was too. I got off work and rushed to Columbia to watch what I though was going to be a great ballgame. When I arrived I was amazed to see our #2 on the mound. We scored 3 in the 1st but our pitcher was not throwing well and Motlow quickly tied the ballgame. Instead of bringing KK in he went to our #3 who gave up 3 more runs. Motlow is a great team and they might have beat KK but we'll never know. She was 19-3 and had already beaten them twice. After listening to the players and parents after the game it came as no surprise that we mailed it in against Chattanooga the next morning. Sorry for the vent guys but I'll go to my grave wondering what his thought process was.

Good luk to Motlow. Represent us well.

motlow played great! that was one of the most exciting if not the most exciting game i've ever seen. they will kill it in nationals! chatt was out of there in a hurry...but i guess if i had already bought plane tickets, hotel rooms, and "chatt invitational" shirts i'd be a little embarrassed too. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

    • Honestly the A.D. may be powerless at Maryville to some degree versus other schools. I know he has his hands full with GoFan and all the stupid surprises just from the emails he sends out during the season.
    • Harriman was better than what I anticipated. They had good skill guys and a QB that’s gonna make a lot of teams look silly. They had some silly pre snap penalties but it’s just spring and I guess that’s expected.    Oneida looks the part. They are big upfront and got a stable of backs that’s gonna carry them this year. They have a few playmakers at receiver also. They have a new receiver that has only played basketball till this year and he is very athletic. The question is can we find a QB to consistently get them the ball. They played 2-3 kids there and none looked great but they didn’t look awful either. The  defense is gonna be tough again but it’s very early and a lot can change between now and the fall.     It was good just to get out and watch some ball. I don’t know if Oneida has the team to win the region this year but just what I saw tonight I think they may be in the conversation come November.
